Prime Video’s new superhero show is tackling a problem that previous adaptations never solved. is a truly original series debuting in 2026, starring Nic Cage as Ben Reilly, a hero dedicated to safeguarding a 1930s-era, film-noir-inspired alternate reality. Cage reprises a version of his Spider-Noir character from the acclaimed animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, making this the first live-action installment in that popular universe.
The upcoming animated series Spider-Noir will feature classic Spider-Man enemies, with Brendan Gleeson voicing the crime boss Silvio Manfredi, also known as Silvermane. Interestingly, Silvermane was originally considered for a role in one of the live-action Spider-Man films starring Tom Holland within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Marvel didn’t include the character, Prime Video is now giving Silvermane a chance to shine.
Spider-Man: Far From Home Missed a Huge Villain Opportunity
A lot of Marvel Cinematic Universe fans aren’t aware of the character Silvermane, who exists in the main Marvel comic book universe (Earth-616). Originally, a scene featuring Silvermane’s gang was planned for the beginning of Spider-Man: Far From Home, taking place in a restaurant. Although this scene didn’t make it into the final movie, it has since been made available to watch online.
The post-credits scene from Far From Home delivers the kind of grounded, street-level action that many Spider-Man fans have been hoping for in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It shows Spider-Man swinging and playfully bantering with the bad guys, just like in the comics. Although this scene isn’t directly connected to the main plot of Far From Home, it showcases the type of Spider-Man experience that fans feel has been lacking in Tom Holland’s movies so far.
Removing this scene also means Marvel misses a great opportunity to introduce a more grounded, street-level Spider-Man story with Silvermane as the main villain. Although not a hugely popular foe, Silvermane has a long history with Spider-Man’s gang-related adventures. His ties to the Maggia crime organization, his conflict with Kingpin, and his connections to other New York gangs would make him a fantastic villain for the neighborhood Spider-Man.
Although it’s unconfirmed if Silvermane will show up in a future Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) project, the character is set to appear in live-action for the first time in Spider-Noir. This gives the Prime Video series an opportunity to make up for Silvermane being left out of the MCU film Far From Home, even if the two stories aren’t linked.
What to Expect From Silvermane in Spider-Noir
Silvermane, also known as Silvio Manfredi, isn’t a villain most casual Spider-Man fans would recognize. He’s an old-school mob boss, different from the more contemporary criminals seen today. As a powerful leader within the Maggia crime organization, Manfredi turned himself into a cyborg to live longer, making him incredibly hard to kill. He’s been reported dead numerous times, but always manages to reappear and try to seize more power.
The comic books provide a solid foundation for the new Prime Video series, allowing it to fully develop the character with its distinctive 1930s noir aesthetic. While it’s not yet certain, it’s probable that Manfredi will appear as his cyborg self during the first season.
Manfredi’s appearance reinforces the idea that New York City is a natural setting for this kind of story. The dark, gritty ‘noir’ style works perfectly with tales of gangsters and the mafia, and Silvermane is a perfect fit for a series like Spider-Noir.
Okay, so I’m really excited about Domhnall Gleeson joining the Marvel universe! It seems like they might be switching things up from the comics with his casting as Silvermane – the character’s usually portrayed as Italian-American, but Gleeson’s Irish, so that’s a fun change. Plus, word on the street is he’s going to be the big bad guy in Spider-Noir, which means we’ll probably get a lot of Silvermane on screen. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing how they handle that!
The new series Spider-Noir corrects a long-standing omission by Marvel Studios by introducing the character Silvio Manfredi, also known as Silvermane, into live-action. With Brendan Gleeson playing the role, Silvermane is poised to become a fan favorite after the show premieres later this year.
Spider-Noir will premiere on Prime Video in the Spring of 2026.
