Fans will soon be able to stream the popular animated Batman series on Tubi! The show, which ran for three seasons and features voice actors Will Friedle, John DiMaggio, and R. Lee Ermey, is critically acclaimed – it currently has a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is often praised as a tribute to the art of animation.
The animated series Batman: The Brave and the Bold is inspired by a comic book series of the same name that began in the 1950s. The comics were known for pairing Batman with different DC superheroes, and often introduced new characters – the Justice League of America, for example, first appeared in issue #28. The Brave and the Bold comic continued until 1983, featuring a new team-up each month. Years later, in the early 2000s, DC brought these popular superhero collaborations to television with the animated series.

The series continues to be highly praised, boasting near-perfect scores from both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. It stands out from recent, darker portrayals of the hero, instead drawing inspiration from older comics and animated shows to recapture a sense of fun that’s been missing. Kevin Carr of 7M Pictures gave it 4 out of 5 stars, noting its refreshing return to the lighter tone of 1970s animation – not as campy as the 1960s Batman, but a welcome change from the usual grimness. Cody Ray Shafer of Under the Radar describes it as a hilarious, sci-fi action series featuring Batman battling aliens, teaming up with quirky heroes, and delivering plenty of witty lines alongside the action.
Beyond being a celebration of animation, Batman: The Brave and the Bold is a heartfelt tribute to older DC comics – a focus often missing in newer Batman stories. The show draws its villains from lesser-known comic books, and while it can be lighthearted, it’s consistently fun to watch, with a classic animation style that holds up beautifully.
