The CW Quietly Canceled Good Cop/ Bad Cop After One Season

The CW has decided not to renew its new police partnership series, canceling it after only one season aired.

Luke Cook announced on social media that The CW will not be renewing Good Cop/Bad Cop for a second season, a report confirmed by TVLine. The CW hasn’t made an official statement yet.

In a recent video, Cook shared the disappointing news that Good Cop/Bad Cop won’t be returning for a second season. He expressed how much he enjoyed working on the show and how close he became with the cast, crew, and the show’s writer, John Quaintance, who he considers great friends.

He expressed his disappointment that the project wouldn’t continue. Cook acknowledged the unpredictable nature of the film industry, explaining that Hollywood can both fulfill and shatter aspirations.

Originally filmed and released in Australia on Stan, the eight-episode series also aired on The CW in the United States. It premiered on February 19, 2025, and concluded its first season on April 9th. Later, it became available on Prime Video on July 11, 2025, where it gained some popularity, though it wasn’t a massive success.

This comedy-drama follows Lou and Henry, a quirky brother and sister duo working as detectives in a small town in the Pacific Northwest. They solve cases while dealing with eccentric locals, limited resources, and their own challenging relationship.

The series Good Cop/Bad Cop featured Monica Cook as Detective Lou Hickman and Devon Terrell as her younger brother, Detective Henry Hickman, with Clancy Brown also among the cast.

Despite not attracting a large audience, the show was well-received by critics. It earned a 91% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 11 reviews, and audiences also gave it a high score of 92%. Unfortunately, these positive reviews didn’t translate into high ratings, with viewership ranging from 260,000 to 420,000.

What’s Next for Leighton Meester?

Leighton Meester, originally from Texas, became well-known for playing Blair Waldorf on The CW’s Gossip Girl. While she appeared in several movies and TV shows after the series ended, none were as successful. In 2025, she reunited with her husband, Adam Brody, for the popular Netflix series Nobody Wants This. That role helped pave the way for her next project, Guarding Stars.

A new romantic comedy film is coming to Netflix, inspired by Katherine Center’s 2022 novel, The Bodyguard. Jared Padalecki, known from Supernatural, will also star in the movie. The actress is also appearing in another upcoming comedy called Basic, alongside Ashley Park from Emily in Paris.

She also played Alyssa in the HBO series I Love LA, and it seems she’ll be returning for more episodes.
