Bloober Team has officially announced the next installment in the horror series, Layers of Fear 3. The announcement followed a countdown that started on New Year’s Eve 2025, and comes a decade after the first Layers of Fear game launched in 2016. A release date hasn’t been revealed yet, and the platforms it will be available on are currently unknown.
Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno kicked off today’s 10th anniversary celebration for Layers of Fear by welcoming both longtime fans and newcomers. He acknowledged that everyone arrived for different reasons, but shared a common connection: being captivated by the game’s story. Babieno emphasized that Layers of Fear was a defining moment for the studio, shaping their identity and the types of games they aim to create. He promised that tonight’s showcase would demonstrate how the game’s legacy continues to thrive and evolve, finding new ways to scare and engage players.
Mateusz Lenart, creative director and lead designer at Bloober Team, explained that Layers of Fear was created as a homage to artists, exploring the delicate balance between inspiration and obsession. The game highlights how creativity can be both beautiful and damaging, fueled by ambition and the fear of not succeeding. The team aimed to create empathy for the artist’s struggles, turning horror into a relatable human story. Originally developed by a small team of around 20 people starting in 2015, Layers of Fear was a very personal project where everyone contributed their own experiences and inspirations to the game’s art and story. They are thankful for the game’s lasting impact and see it as a way to connect with the artist within everyone, suggesting that the deeper you delve into creative expression, the more you learn about yourself.
According to Babieno, the true horror in Layers of Fear isn’t about jump scares or visuals. It’s about the unsettling feelings and emotions that linger with you. The game’s soundtrack is key to this, perfectly capturing the emotional core of the experience – a blend of regret, love, and memories. They’re thrilled to finally release it to players.
Bloober Team revealed they’re planning a physical release of the Layers of Fear soundtrack, along with books inspired by the game. These books will be written by Polish authors and published by Foksal, with the first one, penned by Marta Bijan, expected to arrive in late 2026.
