A popular manga series recently concluded after running for many years in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. As the magazine starts a new year with new stories, it has already launched three new titles hoping to attract fans. After two series were cancelled, everyone wondered what the third change would be. However, instead of another cancellation, this long-running series was able to finish its story naturally.
After five years in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump, Yusei Matsui’s manga series, The Elusive Samurai, has concluded. The final chapter, number 238, wraps up the story and reveals the fate of the Hojo clan, confirming expectations that the series was nearing its end.
The Elusive Samurai Ends After 5 Years With Chapter 238

Chapter 238 of The Elusive Samurai concludes the epilogue, showing what happened to Tokiyuki Hojo’s followers after his death. They each went their own way, but managed to preserve the Hojo clan’s spirit and bloodline through their families. Over the centuries, different branches of the clan flourished and achieved recognition throughout Japan. This confirms that Tokiyuki’s struggles and sacrifices ultimately had a lasting and positive impact, ensuring his legacy lived on.
The most impactful part of the finale focuses on Tokiyuki’s fate. After dying, he finds himself resurrected in the afterlife, specifically in Hell. The explanation is that almost everyone ends up there, as even killing insects qualifies as a sin, with only microscopic, plant-based life forms reaching a paradise that isn’t the idyllic heaven it was made out to be. He’s reunited with Yorishige and discovers Hell is a place of constant warfare, which excites him – a fitting end for someone who loves to fight.
What Does This Mean for Shonen Jump’s Future?

With the conclusion of The Elusive Samurai, this marks the third significant series to finish in the magazine this year, 2026. However, it’s the first to end on its own terms, rather than being abruptly cancelled. Fans are now focused on the currently running series, but it seems likely more will be cancelled soon, as some are already showing signs of wrapping up after only four months.
I’ve noticed a trend in Shonen Jump lately – a lot of series that started in the early 2020s seem to be heading towards their conclusions. It’s not just one title, either. Kouji Miura has mentioned that Blue Box is nearing its end, and Yuto Suzuki’s Sakamoto Days is wrapping up its major conflicts. It definitely makes you wonder which other series will be finishing up soon, so I’m keeping a close watch on the magazine!
