God of War Studio May Announce Another Title This Year – Rumor

While the recent State of Play presentation offered a good mix of content, fans hoping for an announcement of a new God of War game might have been let down. However, according to reliable sources like shinobi602, a new installment is reportedly in development, with Cory Barlog at the helm, and could be released sooner than expected.

A ResetEra user guessed the next major game would come out around 2028, but industry insider shinobi602 hinted it could be sooner, unless there are unforeseen delays. The bigger question, though, is when an official announcement will be made.

According to a source, we can likely expect an announcement this year, potentially during the May State of Play event or Summer Game Fest. They don’t have a firm date yet, but if it doesn’t happen then, the release or reveal might be delayed. This is, of course, assuming everything stays on schedule.

The most recent God of War game, Ragnarök, came out in 2022 and was a huge success, selling over 15 million copies. However, Cory Barlog, the creative director, last directed a God of War game in 2018 with the start of the Norse storyline. If the next God of War releases in 2027, it will have been almost ten years since he last served as director.

While fans wait for the new game, they can enjoy God of War: Sons of Sparta, now available on PS5. It includes a challenging mode with local co-op play after completing the main story. Also, a remake of the God of War Trilogy is in the very early stages of development, though a release date hasn’t been announced yet.
