The official sequel to Jujutsu Kaisen is wrapping up, but many fans feel it’s detracting from the original series’ ending. When Jujutsu Kaisen initially announced it would conclude in Weekly Shonen Jump back in 2024, it caught everyone off guard. The ending sparked a lot of discussion among fans, with many debating its quality.
Last year, the announcement of a sequel to Jujutsu Kaisen thrilled fans eager to see how creator Gege Akutami would continue Yuji Itadori’s story. However, as the sequel approaches its conclusion without resolving many questions from the original series, it’s becoming apparent that while the sequel itself isn’t bad, it might diminish the impact of the original series’ ending in hindsight.
5). Fans Never Really Get an Update on the Finale

When Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo was first announced, many fans hoped it would continue the story right after the original manga ended. However, the series takes place 80 years in the future, focusing on how Japan has evolved following the events in Shibuya and Shinjuku. While there are hints connecting it to the original story, the new timeline is so far removed that fans haven’t received a satisfying follow-up on the characters they love.
Honestly, it’s really frustrating that the sequel is wrapping up and we still don’t know what happened to Megumi Fushiguro after the first series! It’s kind of a joke that even the epilogue didn’t address it. We were all hoping for some closure on things the fans really cared about, but it just didn’t happen, and now it feels like the whole thing was a bit pointless.
4). It Keeps Introducing Characters

The sequel to Jujutsu Kaisen is adding a lot of new characters, which actually makes a problem from the original series even worse. The first series had a habit of introducing many characters with unique abilities and personalities, but then didn’t focus on most of them when the main story began. This wasted a lot of potential – many fans felt the original series ended prematurely – and the sequel is repeating this pattern.
The story introduces a whole new set of characters, and then adds aliens to the mix, making things even more complex. It feels like the series is trying to delve deeper into the inner workings of Jujutsu society, but doesn’t fully develop those ideas. Ultimately, a lot of these new characters don’t seem important, and the story still feels distant from its original focus.
3). Jujutsu Kaisen Was Never About Jujutsu Society

The leaders of the jujutsu sorcerers have always been a secretive group controlling things from behind the scenes, but the main story rarely focused on them directly. Major events involving these leaders usually happened off-screen – for example, Gojo eliminating them before his battle with Sukuna, or Mei Mei rising to a leadership position. So, when Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo started to center on this aspect of the story, it initially felt like a fresh and interesting approach.
While the series introduced the idea that jujutsu exists beyond Japan, this broader scope hasn’t been central to the story. The core of the series has always been about individuals struggling against the plans of those in power and fighting for their own futures. Now, by expanding its focus to questions about humanity and curses on a larger scale, the series is taking on more than it can effectively handle.
2). It Ruins Jujutsu Kaisen’s Happy Ending

One of the biggest problems with Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is that it undermines the hopeful ending of the original Jujutsu Kaisen. The original series put its characters through a lot of suffering and loss, but it concluded by allowing Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara to move forward together, which was a satisfying outcome for fans. While it was acknowledged that the fight against curses wouldn’t completely disappear, the ending still offered a sense of closure and a positive future for the beloved trio.
Sukuna’s defeat felt conclusive, and the remaining threats seemed manageable for Yuji and his friends. It was a difficult victory, leading to a surprisingly hopeful ending that promised a good future for the survivors. Given the fate of Jujutsu Sorcerers – always facing death – a happy outcome felt unlikely. However, the reveal that eighty years passed and everyone eventually died makes the world seem no brighter. It leaves you wondering if that bleak epilogue was truly necessary.
1). It Ruins Yuji’s Happy Ending

Perhaps the most disappointing part of the continuation of Jujutsu Kaisen is what it’s done to Yuji’s potential happy ending. The original story hinted that Yuji would finally find peace and move on, but the sequel shows he’s been cursed to live forever as a god, helplessly watching all his friends age and die. He’s trapped in an endless cycle of fighting, unable to escape and denied the peaceful death he longed for, despite seemingly accepting his fate previously.
Watching this unfold is just incredibly painful for fans of the series. It feels especially unfair to Yuji – he didn’t choose his origins, being born from Kenjaku, and he was completely unprepared for the world he ended up in. He was just a kid trying to find his place, and he did that by fighting alongside his friends and helping others. Now, to learn he can’t even find peace in death after everything he’s done… honestly, some fans might have been better off not knowing that.
