CyberConnect 2, a well-known Japanese game studio, has finally revealed its special project for its 30th anniversary – a completely new game in the .hack series!
The new installment, officially named .hack//ZERO, will be a completely new beginning for the long-running series. While the platforms haven’t been announced yet, it’s likely this won’t be a simple mobile game remake.
You can catch the teaser trailer above, which reveals a few key characters.
If you’re unfamiliar with it, .hack is a series of action role-playing games centered around players who become immersed in a virtual reality world called ‘The World’.
The most recent installment was .hack//G.U. Last Recode, released for PlayStation 4 in 2017. It’s a remastered version of two older games originally made for the PlayStation 2.
Unveiling a brand new game in this series is a huge event, considering it hasn’t seen a release since the PlayStation 3 era.
CyberConnect2 will be releasing ZERO independently, but with approval from Bandai Namco, who owns the rights to the series.
The official website promises that .hack//Z.E.R.O. will be a fresh RPG that combines the series’ signature mix of a fantasy game world and real-life elements, all created with the unique style of CyberConnect2. It’s designed to be fun for both longtime fans and those new to the series.
