Mark Gatiss, the writer and lead actor, hints that his detective series will explore a larger and more complex world when the second season arrives.
The show, which first aired on U&Alibi last summer, centers around Gabriel Book (played by Gatiss), a bookshop owner who uses his love of literature to solve crimes in his London community.
The first season of the show focused on cases happening very close to Book’s workplace on Archangel Lane. According to creator Mark Gatiss, this limited location was intentional, helping viewers get familiar with the setting (as he explained to Collider).
I’m really excited to hear that the next season will show us more of post-war London! Apparently, we’ll get a good look at how Book’s precinct gets set up, and the creator said it’ll allow the show to really expand and explore new things. It sounds like they’re going to broaden the scope of the series, which I think is fantastic.

Gatiss acknowledged the show is quite a large undertaking, and commended UKTV and PBS for their confidence in ‘Bookish,’ having ordered two seasons upfront.
He announced they’ve completed filming the second season just before Christmas, meaning it will be released later this year. He expressed excitement about being ahead of schedule and feeling confident about the project’s progress.
I’m really excited about Bookish because Mark Gatiss has such a knack for mysteries! As a fan, I loved his work on Sherlock with Steven Moffat, and I also enjoyed seeing him in Moonflower Murders. It’s great to see him tackling another intriguing story!
Recently, it was revealed that Mark Gatiss will be working with Rupert Graves again for season 2 of Bookish. Graves famously played DI Lestrade alongside Gatiss in the popular Sherlock series.
Joining the cast are Jason Watkins, known for his role in ‘McDonald & Dodds’; Miranda Richardson, who appears in ‘Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget’; Claire Skinner from ‘The Lady’; and Youssef Kerkour of ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’. Also appearing is Ruth Codd, who you may recognize from ‘The Celebrity Traitors’.
Season two of Bookish hints at ongoing risks for Book due to his ties with the police. Meanwhile, his seemingly convenient marriage to his childhood friend, Trottie (Polly Walker), is put in jeopardy by the charming Colonel Winters (Graves).
Bookish is a unique and fashionable detective drama set in the past. It blends a fondness for bygone days with the exciting, carefree spirit of the era.
Bookish season 2 is coming soon to U&Alibi.
