These days, the Isekai genre is hugely popular in anime. Shows like Sword Art Online, Overlord, and Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation have really changed the anime landscape. While 2026 doesn’t have any anime movies expected to be as massive as Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle and Chainsaw Man The Movie: The Reze Arc, a big Isekai series is coming to theaters and could be one of the year’s biggest hits. To build excitement, Eight Bit Studio recently released a significant preview for their new movie, bringing fans back to the world of Slime.
The new movie, That Time I Got Reincarnated As a Slime The Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea, will be released in Japan on February 27th. Although it won’t be available in North America right away, Crunchyroll has announced plans to bring it to Western audiences. Fans can also look forward to the fourth season of the That Time I Got Reincarnated As a Slime anime series, which will premiere on April 3rd. This makes for a huge year for the popular isekai franchise, and you can get a sneak peek at the upcoming adventures in the preview below.

Tears of The Azure Sea

If you’re new to this story, it’s important to know it isn’t based on the popular light novels or manga. This movie features a completely new story written by the series creator, Fuse. The film, titled Tears of the Azura Sea, centers around the kingdom of Kaien, which is facing a crisis caused by a mysterious pollution rising from the ocean. Fortunately, the hero Rimuru and his friends will arrive to help protect Kaien and its people.
The popular anime That Time I Got Reincarnated As a Slime doesn’t appear to be ending soon, thanks to its growing fanbase. With the author, Fuse, continuing to write new stories, and Eight Bit animating them, there’s likely much more of Rimuru’s adventures to come. Overall, the isekai genre remains very popular in anime, meaning there are plenty of shows available for fans to enjoy.
While That Time I Got Reincarnated As a Slime is popular, it’s not the only isekai series returning this year. Other shows like Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World-, Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, Ascendance of a Bookworm, Reincarnated as a Sword, and Yojo Senki: The Saga of Tanya are also scheduled for a 2026 return.
