Sony Animation, known for recent successes like the Spider-Verse movies and KPop Demon Hunters, started 2026 with a new animated film called GOAT. This sports movie features a team of animals and stars Caleb McLaughlin, Gabrielle Union, David Harbour, Aaron Pierre, and NBA star Stephen Curry, who also helped produce the film.
The animated movie premiered in theaters on February 13th and quickly became popular with viewers. Thanks to positive reviews from GOAT, the film has already earned over $50 million around the world.
Currently, the only way to watch the film is in theaters, but it will eventually be available on Netflix. This is good news if you want to watch it again, or if you missed the theatrical release.
Why Goat Will Stream On Netflix
Although there’s been no official announcement about when it will be available, the movie GOAT will eventually stream on Netflix. This is because Sony and Netflix have a deal: since 2022, Netflix has been the first streaming home for Sony films, and they recently renewed and expanded that agreement globally.
Because Sony Animation is part of Sony Pictures, its films are included in the Netflix agreement. That’s why you’ve been able to watch popular Sony Animation movies on Netflix lately. This deal also made films like The Mitchells vs. the Machines, Fixed, and KPop Demon Hunters available only on Netflix.
After its time in theaters and for home viewing, the documentary GOAT will be added to Netflix for all subscribers, as previously agreed.
When will GOAT be available to stream on Netflix? While Netflix and the studio haven’t officially announced a release date, we can make an educated guess based on how similar collaborations have launched in the past.
As a huge animation fan, I was so excited to see GOAT in theaters! It’s only the second movie Sony Pictures Animation has released theatrically since their deal with Netflix. The first was Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and it took about five months to hit Netflix after its theatrical release. If GOAT follows a similar pattern, we can probably expect it to start streaming around mid-July, which I’m already counting down the days for!
It’s probably not going to happen. Across the Spider-Verse was a huge sequel and did very well in theaters. This is the longest Sony has ever waited to stream a movie on Netflix. So, it would be surprising if GOAT was treated differently and didn’t follow the usual release pattern for Sony films.
It typically took 102.5 days for the studio’s 2025 films to become available on streaming, with the longest wait being 120 days – this applied to movies like Karate Kid: Legends and A Big Bold Beautiful Journey. Based on the average timeframe, we can expect new releases to start streaming in late May. If we use the full 120-day window, GOAT is currently projected to be released on Netflix around mid-June.
The highly anticipated film, GOAT, is set to premiere on streaming platforms this summer. While the exact release date – whether in May or June – is still being finalized, Sony and Netflix are confident it will quickly become one of the most popular titles available.
