Marvel Comics is gearing up for what they say will be the biggest Avengers storyline in over two decades. Now that Doom has been defeated, things are unstable globally, particularly in his home country of Latveria. Marvel has confirmed that all of this was leading up to a major new Avengers event.
Marvel is setting the stage for a major event with storylines involving Wolverine and Captain America, hinting at a larger conflict. That conflict is now revealed to be Avengers: Armageddon, a new comic series launching June 3rd from writer Chip Zdarsky and artists Frank Alpizar and Delio Diaz. The story begins when Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, also known as the Red Hulk, seizes control of Latveria, sparking a worldwide war. As the Avengers confront him, the situation quickly intensifies, leading to a dramatic power display that will forever change how the world sees Earth’s heroes.
Avengers: Armageddon is Being Teased as the Biggest Avengers Event Since 2004
Details about the upcoming Avengers: Armageddon are scarce, but early hints suggest a major crisis will be caused by some of Marvel’s strongest heroes. Marvel has likened this event to Avengers: Disassembled, a hugely significant storyline in comic book history. Disassembled dramatically reshaped the Avengers team, revitalizing the series for a new generation and making it one of Marvel’s most popular titles.
This comparison is important because it indicates this event could mark the beginning of a new phase, especially as it lines up with the release of the Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars movies. While the Avengers: Disassembled storyline felt rushed and poorly prepared, stemming from Scarlet Witch’s issues, Marvel has been carefully developing the Red Hulk mystery for months. This has created anticipation among readers for something big involving Thunderbolt Ross.
