New Godzilla Poster Teases Monarch’s Season 2 Villain

Fans of giant monsters are in for a treat this month with the return of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters on Apple TV. Season two will once again feature Godzilla and Kong, but teasers suggest we’ll also be seeing some new creatures enter the MonsterVerse. Although it’s not official, a recent poster seems to hint at a fresh take on a beloved monster from the original Toho series. With so many giant beasts to choose from, and decades of history to draw from, the possibilities are exciting for this North American version of the kaiju world.

The next season of the MonsterVerse will not only reunite the human characters from Monarch with Godzilla and Kong, but also tease a new, tentacled monster. While it’s not confirmed, many fans believe this creature could be Biollante, a plant-monster hybrid first seen in a 1989 Godzilla film. This theory makes sense because the organization Apex, known for experimenting with monsters and creating Mechagodzilla, could be behind the new threat. We’ll have answers soon, as the new season arrives on February 26th.

Monarch is Missing Monsters

Toho, the studio that created Godzilla, has a long history of giant monsters, or ‘kaiju,’ that challenge both humans and Godzilla himself. The recent MonsterVerse films have not only featured classic creatures like Mechagodzilla, King Ghidorah, and Rodan, but have also introduced brand new monsters from the Hollow Earth. The latest film, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, unveiled Shimo and Skar King, powerful creatures designed as dark counterparts to Kong and Godzilla, demonstrating that the Hollywood versions of these monsters can be original and imaginative.

The creators of the show haven’t confirmed if the new monster is Biollante, and haven’t said anything about a plant-based monster appearing on Apple TV this month. While speaking with showrunners Matt Fraction and Chris Black, they shared a list of monsters they’d like to include in the MonsterVerse, mentioning Hedorah and Jet Jaguar, but stopped short of confirming Biollante’s appearance.

While Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is coming soon, another big MonsterVerse story is already planned for next year: Godzilla x Kong: Supernova. Though the movie’s villain hasn’t been officially revealed, many believe it will be Space Godzilla, a powerful alien version of the iconic monster. If true, this would introduce a visually striking and formidable new threat to both Godzilla and Kong.
