Kelly Ripa Reveals Downside to Working With Husband Mark Consuelos

Mark Consuelos knows how to push Kelly Ripa’s buttons.

After spending almost three decades collaborating with her husband on the show “Live with Kelly and Mark”, there’s something she no longer needs to be part of it anymore.

Kelly, 54, shared on the July 15 episode of the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast that he often ignores her and tunes her out during their live broadcast. She expressed frustration, saying ‘I’m accustomed to you ignoring me in everyday life, but when you are being paid—and I might add, handsomely so—to truly listen to me, then you must listen to me.’

Kelly jokingly said, ‘I literally keep an eye on Mark.’ She added, ‘I see him drifting away and I say, “Don’t do that,”‘” or more casually, “Kelly quipped about Mark, ‘I’m watching him drift away, and I tell him not to.’

Mark, who has children Michael (age 28), Lola (24), and Joaquin (22) with Kelly, officially joined the team in 2023, following Ryan Seacrest’s departure. Although the former Riverdale actor is thrilled about the job opportunity, Kelly confessed that he had an unexpected response when asked to take over permanently.

She clarified, “Mark found it very persuasive,” as he had initially turned down their proposal without hesitation.

Speaking as a lifestyle advisor, when it comes to Kelly, who shared the screen with Mark for an impressive 12 years on “All My Children,” at first, she aligned herself with her spouse’s views.

She added, “I too felt it was somewhat questionable,” she said. “A husband and wife co-hosting a morning show is quite distinct from a husband and wife acting together or working on a project together.

Indeed, despite their initial hesitation, Mark’s addition to the show was ultimately well-received.

Mark resonates well with the crowd as he doesn’t care about what others might think or expect,” Kelly commented. “They appreciate his honesty. If he dislikes something, he expresses it openly, even if we’re expected to adore it. Similarly, when he finds something unimpressive, he has no qualms about saying so, despite the expectation for us to pretend to enjoy whatever it is.

For the past 31 years, we’ve been a united pair, with no qualms about showing our true selves openly. There’s no pretense between us. We don’t shy away from sharing our genuine feelings. People seem to appreciate this authenticity, as we simply speak our minds, and that honesty seems relatable to many.

What works for the audience is working for Kelly too, as she noted, “I love working with him.”

In March 2022, Kelly decided to take a short break to catch the Wolverines’ performances at the Division 1 Wrestling Championships held in Detroit.

As a first-year student, Joaquin did not participate in wrestling this time around. However, Kelly expressed relief upon her return from the event, stating, “Watching these young athletes felt like it aged me significantly.

By June 2021, the entire family managed to travel to both Greece and Italy, a journey that had been delayed due to unexpected circumstances brought about by the pandemic in the previous year, 2020.

Kelly mentioned that due to delays, last year’s graduation trip for our eldest son and niece ended up being rescheduled so it also became a trip for our newborn family members,” or simply “The postponement of last year’s graduation trip turned it into a family outing for our newborns as well.

In the spirit of sharing our delightful moments, I proudly chose a snapshot from our blissful Mediterranean escape to be our cherished holiday card for 2021.

Last August 2020, Kelly Ripa posted on Instagram a remarkable reenactment of an old family picture from 2003. In this updated version, her youngest child Joaquin was seated comfortably in her lap, while Michael and Lola were neatly positioned beside them. Even though Kelly pointed out that objects might seem enlarged, they seemed to have captured the essence perfectly.

In May 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic, Kelly and Mark celebrated Michael’s graduation from New York University virtually instead of in person. In my case, being part of such a stunning family, I find myself clicking selfies more frequently than I’d care to admit!

Holidays always bring family together and this famous crew is no exception.

In 2003, it was Kelly and her spouse, Mark Consuelos, who marked the grand opening of the play “A Year With Frog and Toad” at Maxine’s location in New York City.

In the year 2001, I, a die-hard fan, was fortunate enough to accompany my cherished family to the grand premiere of ATLANTIS: The Lost Empire at the iconic Ziegfeld Theatre nestled within the bustling heart of New York City.

No matter if they’re heading off to a warm, tropical destination or a cold, snowy one, this family always manages to enjoy themselves.
