In a thrilling turn of events, James Gunn’s Superman has made a powerful debut at the box office, and along with it, it brought a variety of cherished DC characters into play as the credits unfurled. As we move forward in this fresh era of DC, Peacemaker season 2 is on the horizon, followed by series like Supergirl, Lanterns, and Clayface. Additionally, there’s an intriguing project that has been relatively quiet lately, and it involves the unanticipated alliance of Batman adversaries Bane and Deathstroke. This collaboration now seems to be making significant progress towards materializing on the silver screen.
In episode 76 of The Box Office Podcast, titled “Reign of the ‘Superman'”, Umberto Gonzalez from The Wrap shared an intriguing piece of news. When asked about their preferred solo or ensemble DC Universe film, Gonzalez expressed his eagerness for a movie featuring Bane and Deathstroke. Interestingly, it appears that a script for this project has already been submitted.
Gonzalez mentioned, “It’s the latest one they’ve performed with a prepared script. Among my top picks are two characters: Deathstroke, my favorite DC villain, and Bane, my preferred anti-hero. They’re all set with the script now.
It’s currently unclear when we can expect the release of the project, but we do know that Captain America: Brave New World’s Matthew Orton was penning the script. Recently, it appears that the script has been submitted officially. Similar to how James Gunn mentioned with The Batman Part II, a finished script is necessary before any further progress can be made on a project.
Gunn recently discussed the progress of ‘The Batman Part II’ script on Threads, stating that it was still incomplete when he wrote about it. However, since then, the script has been finalized and submitted. At the time of writing, Gunn mentioned there was a delay due to the lack of a complete script, acknowledging that followers of his work would already be aware of this. Additionally, Gunn noted that director Matt Reeves is dedicated to creating the best possible film, and it’s difficult to predict how long it will take for a screenplay to be written. Once the script is finished, there will typically be around two years for pre-production, filming, and post-production on large films.
Currently, rumors suggest that both Bane and Deathstroke’s movie are at the same development stage, leaving us to see if the project progresses further. Should it do so, it would undoubtedly stir more discussions about this universe experiencing its own “Dark Night,” a concept Gunn has previously mentioned. However, for now, all attention is on Superman, who is already in theaters.
