In the ongoing Season 2 of “Dandadan,” three episodes have been broadcasted thus far, delving into the tumultuous quest to retrieve Ken Takakura’s lost body parts, the male lead character. The new addition to the primary cast is Jin, who, along with Momo Ayase and Okarun, struggles to free himself from a curse plaguing his residence. The second episode intensifies the narrative, focusing on Jin as he succumbs to the Evil Eye yokai’s possession, revealing his exceptional abilities. This transformation makes Jin the most formidable adversary Momo and Okarun have encountered yet, as his immense physical power tests even Okarun in his Turbo Granny form to its limits.
In the power imbalance between them, Okarun’s only weapon being his Full Throttle ability, which leaves him powerless following each intense attack, suggested a one-sided fight. It seemed likely that Okarun would require Momo’s help and possibly Jin’s internal strength from the Evil Eye to have any hope. But in an unexpected twist, the latest episode showcases Okarun ingeniously modifying his Full Throttle to vanquish the Evil Eye independently. Upon closer examination, this method bears a striking resemblance to how Deku from “My Hero Academia” employs his One For All quirk by using it in measured amounts to prevent self-injury when unleashing its full might.
Okarun Defeats the Evil Eye Using a Strategy Reminiscent of Deku’s Quirk Mastery
At the beginning of “My Hero Academia”, Deku found it necessary to employ only a fraction of the power given to him by All Might instead of using it at maximum capacity to prevent self-injury. This required him to control the power through his individual fingers or, later on, use minimal portions of One For All to keep things under control and avoid causing damage. In a similar vein, Okarun’s most potent ability in Turbo Granny form, Full Throttle, leaves his entire body immobilized afterwards, which is reminiscent of Deku’s predicament.
In the most recent episode, Okarun outwitted the Evil Eye by subtly reducing his Full Throttle intensity, using gentle leg thrusts for each attack. This allowed him to stay nimble and keep landing successive hits. Altogether, he threw a hundred punches to vanquish the Evil Eye. Since he had already unleashed Full Throttle once before, it’s clear that each punch equated to about one percent of his total power, distributing his full might across numerous blows. Remarkably, this tactic echoes Deku’s gradual application of One For All in My Hero Academia, hinting that the creator of Dandadan may have been inspired by this popular series, weaving an engaging link between these cherished stories.
