After a 12-year break, American Dad! is back on Fox! The animated series is celebrating its return with a trailer offering a sneak peek at the rest of the new season. Having premiered 21 years ago, and after finishing its initial run on Fox twelve years ago, American Dad! is entering a fresh era with plenty of exciting possibilities.
Season 20 of American Dad! is now on Fox, starting with a fresh new opening theme. Fox has also released a trailer giving fans a sneak peek at the rest of the season’s episodes, which will air through 2026. You can watch the trailer below while we wait for the next episode to air.
American Dad Returns to Fox in February 2026
After a run on TBS, American Dad! is back on Fox for its 20th season. While the show lasted longer on TBS than its original run with Fox, it feels like a natural return. It’s now airing alongside Seth MacFarlane’s Family Guy as part of the Animation Domination lineup, and the first episode suggests it fits right in—the show’s humor and style haven’t changed much.
While the exact number of episodes for American Dad! Season 20 hasn’t been announced, fans don’t need to worry! Fox has already renewed the show for several more seasons. The renewal happened alongside extensions for other popular animated series like The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, and Family Guy, and was announced before the show’s return in 2026. With Season 20 now underway, American Dad! is confirmed to continue for the foreseeable future.
Is American Dad Changing With Its Return to Fox?
When American Dad! moved from TBS to Fox, many fans worried the show’s humor might change. Executive producer Matt Weitzman addressed this at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, explaining the biggest adjustment would be avoiding certain curse words like “shit” and “God damn it.” However, Weitzman wasn’t concerned, stating the writers wouldn’t need to work around the restrictions to stay funny.
The new season of American Dad! starts with a hilariously strange episode: the Smith family deals with a dead rat in their pool, and Francine ends up having to create a much bigger deterrent to keep everyone away. If you were concerned the show might be different now that it’s moved, this premiere proves it’s still the same wacky American Dad! we know and love.
