Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Is Delayed Yet Again (But It’s Actually a Good Thing)

On Friday, Sony announced that the release date for “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse” has been moved from June 4, 2027, to June 25, 2027. This isn’t the first time the movie has faced a delay; it was initially planned to hit theaters after “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” in 2024, but the delays were due to writers’ and actors’ strikes.

The studio hasn’t provided a reason for the delay yet, but one of the movie’s producers hinted at it on social media, implying that the film needs a better release window in IMAX cinemas to optimize its viewing experience. On his Twitter account, Miller replied to a post about the delay with simply “(Better IMAX window)”.

An alternative reasoning provided by resources is that the new release date would attract more school-going children to cinemas since most schools would have broken up for summer vacation by then. Regardless, a three-week postponement to capitalize on a larger IMAX window seems astute for a film that thrives in IMAX environments. This is particularly important as the movie will compete with other IMAX releases that month, such as the live-action version of “How to Train Your Dragon 2” and an Unnamed Event Film from Universal.

The Spider-Verse trilogy has emerged as one of Sony’s most significant franchises. The initial installment, titled “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” grossed $393.6 million globally against a production budget of $90 million. The subsequent film, called “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” surpassed its predecessor’s earnings with an impressive $690.5 million at the global box office. Both films have garnered not only substantial financial success but also critical and audience praise. The first movie boasted a remarkable 97% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while the second film earned an equally impressive 95% Fresh rating on the same platform.

In the “Spider-Verse” movie series, Chris Miller and Phil Lord serve as executive producers. They work together with Amy Pascal and Avi Arad in producing these films. Additionally, Brian Michael Bendis, a renowned comic book writer, is credited as a producer. He is recognized for co-creating Miles Morales along with Sara Pichelli, a talented comic book artist.

As a passionate movie reviewer, I’m thrilled to share my thoughts on the sensational animated series that brings the Spider-Verse to life! This captivating franchise finds me in the shoes of Miles Morales, portrayed by Shameik Moore, joined by Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, and many more talented stars such as Mahershala Ali, Brian Tyree Henry, Lily Tomlin, Zoë Kravitz, John Mulaney, Kathryn Hahn, Nicolas Cage, Liev Schreiber, Oscar Isaac, Issa Rae, and Andy Samberg.

Next year, Sony will embark on its first live-action spinoff of the Spider-Verse franchise with the highly anticipated debut of Spider-Noir, starring the inimitable Nicolas Cage, right here on Prime Video! So, mark your calendars, fellow movie enthusiasts, and get ready to immerse yourself in a whole new web of adventure!

Fans can once again dive into the world of Spider-Verse since Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and its sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse are now available on Hulu. Sony’s upcoming Spider-Man film, titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day, a joint production with Marvel Studios, is slated for release before Beyond the Spider-Verse. The movie, currently scheduled for July 31, 2026, will be followed by the film Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which will hit theaters on June 25, 2027.
