The second season of the popular anime Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is underway, but it will be shorter than initially planned. The season follows Frieren and her companions on their adventures and is scheduled to finish in March 2026 with its tenth episode. As the story progresses, the group faces increasingly difficult challenges in treacherous lands. Production paused briefly for one week to prepare for the ‘Divine Revolte Arc,’ a highly praised part of the series, and fans have another exciting development to look forward to before the season ends.
Yen Press has announced that the first volume of the ‘Prelude’ novel will be released on March 17, 2026. This 160-page book will be available as a paperback and ebook on Amazon, Crunchyroll, and select other retailers. Pre-orders are already open! The novel, originally published in 2024, features five new short stories following Frieren and her companions—Fern, Stark, Lawine, Kanne, and Aura—on fresh adventures. While Tsukasa Abe provides the artwork, the novel is written by Mei Hachimoku with supervision from manga writer Kanehito Yamada.
What’s Next For Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Fans?

I just finished watching the latest arc of the anime, where Frieren’s group continued their travels north. They met some interesting new characters and faced off against some pretty scary monsters along the way. It’s clear the northern lands are still really suffering from these monster attacks, and things seem to be getting even more dangerous as they head closer to Aureole. The demons are still a big problem, especially up north, since that’s where the Demon King used to rule. Now, the story is moving on, and the party is heading towards the Rufen Region on the Northern Plateau. They’ve been asked to defeat a demon that recently destroyed a village, so that’s where their journey is taking them next.
The story will bring back familiar faces and introduce Revolte, a major character. The current story arc is short – only six chapters – which means the anime adaptation might start the longer Golden Land Arc even if it can’t cover it completely. This next arc spans 28 chapters and features a land mysteriously turned to gold. However, the manga itself is currently on hold, as the creators needed to take a break due to health issues, starting last November.
Even though the creators are both independently developing the next part of the story during the pause, there haven’t been any announcements about when the series will continue. The anime first aired on January 16, 2026, and new episodes are released on Crunchyroll every Friday at 7:00 AM Pacific Time, soon after they air in Japan. Season two is also available on Netflix, but currently only in certain Asian countries, and there’s no word yet on when it will be available in the USA.
