The White Lotus favourite to star in all-new TV adaptation of classic Jane Eyre

The White Lotus star Aimee Lou Wood has reportedly found her next major TV role.

Deadline reports that the actor will star as Jane Eyre in a new TV series based on Charlotte Brontë’s classic 1847 novel.

Working Title, the production company that recently made the new film version of Sense and Sensibility with Daisy Edgar-Jones, is producing the adaptation. Miriam Battye, known for her work on Succession, is writing the screenplay.

The story traces the life of its main character, from a difficult childhood to her time working as a governess at Thornfield Hall. There, she finds love with the estate owner, Mr. Rochester, a passionate but troubled man.

Jane Eyre has received multiple adaptations over the years on stage and screen.

Recent adaptations of the story include the 2011 film directed by Cary Fukunaga, featuring Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender, and a 2006 BBC miniseries with Ruth Wilson playing Jane.

Naomi Wood gained widespread recognition and critical acclaim for her role in the popular Netflix series Sex Education, receiving nominations for both an Emmy and a Golden Globe award for her performance as a supporting actress.

Since then, the actor has been in shows like the Netflix miniseries Toxic Town, the British comedy Film Club, and the third season of HBO’s The White Lotus.

The announcement of a new Jane Eyre movie comes soon after Emerald Fennell’s take on Wuthering Heights sparked debate. That film split audiences and critics with its unconventional casting choices and a very modern approach to themes of love and intimacy.
