Caleb and Tarima’s connection is more than just a simple introduction – it’s crucial to the story. Tarima can mentally reach Caleb even from far away, and she ultimately intervenes when he’s in danger from the alien Furies. She uses Caleb as a conduit to amplify her psychic abilities, unleashing a powerful mental attack that seems to overwhelm and destroy the Furies’ minds. It’s an incredibly impressive display of telepathic power, arguably the strongest we’ve seen in Star Trek so far.

We’ve already seen clues that Betazoids from the future are stronger than those we know, so it’s likely we’re witnessing how this alien race will evolve.
