Marvel’s Wolverine is coming out on September 15th, and some fans were surprised by how Sony announced the release date.
The news arrived unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, without any accompanying trailer, gameplay footage, or details about pre-order incentives.
Some people who believe in conspiracy theories think this announcement was timed to distract from the recent news about Bluepoint closing.
Although the connection might seem weak, it’s important to recall that the platform temporarily stopped posting on social media last weekend because angry fans had attacked its accounts. The outage lasted over 72 hours.
As a big fan, I was just thinking – we had a really great State of Play so recently! Wouldn’t it have made sense to share this news during that broadcast?
Honestly, the livestream was already packed with exciting reveals, so adding too many announcements could have lessened their impact. The news about Marvel’s Wolverine definitely didn’t go unnoticed, considering it received almost 80,000 likes on X (formerly Twitter).
But some fans do think there’s something suspicious about all this.
“Bro announced it randomly to make us forget about Bluepoint Games shutting down,” one said.
Someone else expressed frustration, saying people seemed too eager to shift the focus of the conversation. They then asked if Insomniac Games would be shut down as a result.
We don’t believe Sony has a complex, long-term plan with this release, though we acknowledge the announcement of the date was a bit strange.
Since GTA 6 is scheduled for release in November, we expect the months leading up to it to be quite hectic. Most game developers will likely avoid launching their games around the same time as Rockstar’s highly anticipated open-world title.
It’s likely Insomniac was sure about the release date, while Sony was eager to announce it quickly. Plus, most publishers would probably avoid releasing a game at the same time as Marvel’s Wolverine, so we expect the original September 15th date will now be available.
It’s unlikely Bluepoint Games is involved with this. The announcement of Wolverine’s release date doesn’t really make up for the disappointment of their previous news, does it?
