D4vd has been named in a grand jury murder investigation into the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez.
According to NBC News, court documents related to a grand jury case identify singer David Anthony Burke, known as “Romantic Homicide,” as a “target” of the investigation. These documents were filed as part of a request to bring in a witness from out of state.
According to court documents, prosecutors believe 20-year-old David, from Texas, might be connected to the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, and her death is being investigated as potentially criminal.
TopMob News has contacted D4vd’s representative and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for a statement regarding the petition, but they haven’t responded yet.
In September, the remains of Rivas Hernandez, who had been missing since 2024, were discovered in the front trunk of a Tesla owned by D4vd.
Police were called to a Los Angeles impound lot after people reported a bad smell coming from a car. The vehicle had been left in the Hollywood Hills since late August and had been held at the impound for several days.
After finding the vehicle, detectives searched a nearby property where the musician D4vd—who was touring the country—reportedly stayed before leaving town, according to law enforcement sources who are familiar with the investigation.
According to sources at NBC4, ABC7, and TMZ, D4vd was identified as a person of interest in the death of Rivas Hernandez in November.
Despite an earlier statement from D4vd’s representative claiming he was fully cooperating with police, a source within the Los Angeles Police Department told NBC4 that this wasn’t the case.

A Los Angeles Police Department detective’s document, reviewed by the Los Angeles Times in November, described the case involving Rivas Hernandez as a murder investigation.
The family of Rivas Hernandez expressed their extreme sadness and grief following her death, as police continue their investigation.

D4vd, whose full name is David Anthony Burke, was born in Queens, New York, and later moved to Houston, Texas, at the age of 13.

Okay, so I’ve been following D4vd since the beginning, and it’s seriously amazing to see how far he’s come! It all started with him streaming, mostly Fortnite, trying to blow up on YouTube – honestly, a lot of us were watching! But then he kept getting hit with copyright stuff because of the music he used. It was so frustrating! Thankfully, he’s super close with his mom, and she actually helped him figure things out back in 2021. I remember reading about that – it’s just so cool to see how supportive his family is!
He described a conversation with his mother, telling Benny Blanco for Hero magazine in September 2024 that he’d basically complained to her about not making any money. She was on the phone at the time and told him to just create his own music and leave her alone. That’s when it hit him – he realized he could actually do that.
D4vd, who hadn’t had any formal musical training beyond casual singing, began creating music using an app on his phone. His songs quickly gained popularity online, and as more of his original music went viral on TikTok, his music career really started to flourish.
He finally released his first album, Withered, in April 2025, and quickly followed it up with his first world tour.

On September 8th, police were sent to a Hollywood tow yard after reports of a bad smell coming from a car, according to NBC News sources.
Police in Los Angeles discovered human remains inside a Tesla’s front trunk. The car was registered to David Anthony Burke, who performs as the artist D4vd, and was linked to an address in Hempstead, Texas.
According to police, the car was towed to the impound lot because it had been left abandoned in the Hollywood Hills.

On September 16th, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that remains found in a Tesla belonged to Celeste Rivas Hernandez, who had been missing since April 5, 2024. She was 13 years old when she disappeared.
Records from the Medical Examiner’s Office, obtained by TopMob News on September 17th, show that a final cause of death hasn’t been determined. While her body was found on September 8th, officials believe it had been in the car for a significant amount of time beforehand and was extremely decomposed.

After learning about the death of Rivas Hernandez, a representative for D4vd told NBC News that the singer has been notified and is working with law enforcement while continuing his tour.
Since then, D4vd canceled the remainder of his U.S. dates.
