Unlike other LEGO games made by TT Games, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will only let you play as seven different characters. Some fans might be worried about this, but Jonathan Smith, the game’s Head of Production, explains that having fewer characters allowed the team to create more diverse gameplay. He told IGN that they’re really focusing on developing each character’s story and abilities.
The game features continuous character improvement, letting you unlock new skills and abilities for each one. We also put a lot of effort into making each member of the Bat family feel truly unique, with distinct personalities and powers.
Each character will have a unique playstyle. For example, Batman can use his grappling hook and batarangs, while Catwoman fights with a whip for long-range attacks and can even distract enemies with her kittens and a laser pointer. The game will also continue the LEGO Batman series’ tradition of having lots of collectibles to find, according to Smith.
The game now features a smaller, more distinct group of characters with more complex abilities. These characters are designed to work well together, and players will have over a hundred different outfits to collect, allowing them to fully explore each character’s potential.
Even now, seeing all the different Batman costumes from various movies and versions lined up is amazing and makes you want to have them all.
Smith mentioned that LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will launch on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on May 29th. He also explained that the delay of Grand Theft Auto 6 actually benefited TT Games. Originally, GTA 6 was scheduled to release just a few days before LEGO Batman, which would have created a conflict. Now that GTA 6 is coming out on November 19th, TT Games has more space to shine.
I’m really excited to play GTA 6, but we’re also happy to offer LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight for players to enjoy. We’re creating a great open-world experience that I highly recommend for everyone.
The newest trailer for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight pays homage to Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman film, using Prince’s song “Partyman” and recreating the iconic art museum scene where the Joker causes chaos. You can also find out what it was like for Shai Matheson to voice Batman, as he’s been a lifelong fan of the character.
