DC Finally Gives Its Most Underrated Green Lantern Their Due

A Green Lantern is poised to take center stage and play a significant role. While many DC heroes have supporting counterparts, the Green Lanterns actually have the largest number of active members in the DC Universe. This is because they all belong to the Green Lantern Corps, a galactic peacekeeping force responsible for protecting over 3000 regions of space. Earth has been fortunate to have several heroes serve in the Corps, including experienced Lanterns like John Stewart and newer recruits such as Keli Quintela.

There are so many Green Lanterns on Earth that it’s tough for them all to get their moment to shine. While Hal Jordan is the main focus, heroes like Jessica Cruz and Guy Gardner have played supporting roles. DC Comics deserves credit for trying to give everyone a chance, but some Green Lanterns haven’t been featured enough. Now, with Hal Jordan embarking on a new journey, a popular character will finally get to be the only Green Lantern protecting Earth.

Kyle Rayner is Stepping Up to Be DC’s Main Green Lantern

In Green Lantern #32, written by Jeremy Adams with art by Romulo Fajardo, Jr. and Dave Sharpe, Hal Jordan is ready to propose to Carol Ferris. He takes her to a romantic city hoping she’ll say yes, as he’s recently had visions of their future together and wants her to be in it. However, their evening is interrupted by Cupid, who is fleeing after a theft.

Green Lantern and Star Sapphire manage to capture the thief, but they discover the stolen item holds a piece of the Star Sapphire—the source of Carol’s power. A strange voice then urges Carol to find the remaining fragments and fully unlock the Star Sapphire’s potential. This means no romantic proposal for now, as Carol receives a new, urgent mission. Meanwhile, Hal Jordan realizes he’s put off his own task for too long. After saying farewell to Carol, he travels to the moon to locate Kyle Rayner.

Hal and Kyle had a heartfelt conversation where Hal expressed immense pride in Kyle, even calling him the greatest Green Lantern. Hal then explained he needed to leave to investigate a series of visions. He entrusted Kyle with protecting Earth while he was gone, and Kyle happily accepted the responsibility. With a flash of green light, Hal left, making Kyle the sole Green Lantern tasked with safeguarding the planet.

Kyle Rayner is Finally Getting the Recognition He Deserves

I’ve always liked Kyle Rayner, and he truly deserves a long run as Earth’s main Green Lantern. He carried the responsibility for a significant period previously, even without much training or experience. This time, it’s different – Hal Jordan is intentionally passing the torch to Kyle because he recognizes Kyle’s ability. It’s not that Kyle is the only one who could do it, but he’s the most qualified and prepared for the job right now.

Each Green Lantern brings unique strengths to the table, but Kyle Rayner stands out. Not only did he save the Green Lantern Corps, but he’s the only one who’s fully understood and harnessed the Emotional Spectrum, becoming a White Lantern. Even now, he can briefly access the full range of these powerful energies. While Hal Jordan is incredibly skilled with the traditional green power ring, having a Lantern who can use different types of energy is a huge benefit to Earth.

It’s fantastic that Kyle is getting his own book again! He hasn’t had much focus in the Green Lantern series recently, and he deserves a chance to really shine and prove himself to fans. It’ll be interesting to see what obstacles he faces as Earth’s sole Green Lantern. As a longtime fan, I’m really looking forward to seeing him take on this new challenge and show everyone what he’s capable of.
