Despite a challenging year that included closing down live service games and studios like Monolith Productions, and navigating a major company acquisition, Warner Bros. Discovery is looking ahead to big things in the coming year. During an earnings call, the company’s streaming and games chief, JB Perrette, announced plans to revisit some of its most popular franchises.
According to one executive, 2025 was a year for the company to refocus. They felt the gaming division had spread itself too thin by pursuing too many different game series with too many studios. Although LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight and Game of Thrones: Dragonfire are being released this year (with Dragonfire already available in some areas), the company anticipates seeing the biggest results from their efforts in 2027 and 2028 when they return to their most popular franchises.
Specifically, which game series are we talking about? The company recently reorganized to concentrate on Mortal Kombat, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, and DC, so it’s probably one of those four. We might finally see news about a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy in the next few months, with a possible release next year around the time the new HBO show comes out. While we don’t know much about NetherRealm’s next game, there are rumors it will be a new Injustice title.
Despite these setbacks, the company’s plans for ongoing, multiplayer games with continuous updates may be finished, particularly after the poor performance of MultiVersus, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, and Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions. However, this doesn’t necessarily rule out selling in-game items or focusing solely on single-player games, as evidenced by the cancellation of Wonder Woman.
LEGO Batman fans have something to look forward to: the release of Legacy of the Dark Knight on May 29th. A new trailer showing a scene inspired by the 1989 Batman movie—and featuring Prince’s song “Partyman”—suggests it’s going to be great!
