Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt’s Son Maddox Drops Pitt From His Last Name

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s son Maddox is starting a new chapter.

Maddox Jolie-Pitt, age 24, has removed his father’s last name from the credits of his upcoming movie, Couture, according to People magazine.

Maddox, an assistant director on the film, also had his name altered in the production notes for Couture. These notes were distributed to the press at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025, according to the report.

TopMob News reached out to Brad’s rep but has not received a comment.

A new film starring 50-year-old Angelina premiered in France on February 18th. She plays an American movie director who learns she has breast cancer right before a planned trip to Paris.

Besides Maddox, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt – who separated in 2016 after being married for two years – are also parents to Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 19, and 17-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. But Maddox isn’t the only one of their children who has stopped using Pitt as their last name.

In 2023, Zahara stopped using her father’s last name when introducing herself to her sisters in Alpha Kappa Alpha at Spelman College. The following year, Vivienne was listed as Vivienne Jolie in the program for the Broadway show The Outsiders, where she worked with her mother.

In May 2024, on her 18th birthday, Shiloh officially filed to legally change her name to Shiloh Jolie. The court approved the name change in August of that same year.

This name change isn’t unusual for the family, as both Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have altered their names before. Angelina, originally named Angelina Jolie Voight, decided to use her middle name, Jolie, as her last name instead of her father, Jon Voight’s. Similarly, Brad, whose full name is William Bradley Pitt, chose to go by his middle name, Brad, when he started acting.

Even though many of their children have chosen similar paths – changing their names and pursuing careers in entertainment – Angelina has stated that they don’t want to be actors like their parents, Brad and herself.

Angelina Jolie shared at the 2025 Santa Barbara Film Festival that her children aren’t interested in pursuing acting or the fame that comes with it, according to People magazine. She said they have no desire to be in the spotlight.
