The beloved BBC comedy Ghosts is officially heading to the big screen.
BBC Film, Lionsgate, BBC Studios, and Monumental Television are joining forces to create a new movie based on the popular series ‘Ghosts,’ titled ‘Ghosts: The Possession of Button House.’
The original cast and creators – Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard, and Ben Willbond – wrote a new family film, and Lolly Adefope, Charlotte Ritchie, and Kiell Smith-Bynoe are back to star in it.
This movie brings back together the creators of the popular sitcom that aired on BBC One for five seasons. The show ended in 2023, with its final episode attracting 7.2 million viewers.
Simon Hynd, known for his work on shows like Ghosts and Motherland, will direct the project. Filming will occur at West Horsley Place in Surrey – which served as the inspiration for Button House – and in nearby areas.

The team behind Ghosts initially thought the show had ended after the last series. They hadn’t intended to revisit the story, but a new idea sparked so much enthusiasm that they decided to return to Button House for one final adventure.
They expressed their excitement about coming together again and meeting new talent to tell a deeply moving story about life and death.
As a big fan of Ghosts, I’m so excited to hear it’s coming back! Eva Yates, the director at BBC Film, said they’re thrilled to bring us another series – and she promised it’ll be a really funny, big-screen experience. I can’t wait!
This new movie continues the popular ‘Ghosts’ franchise, which has already been adapted for television in the US (currently airing its fifth season with a sixth on the way), as well as in France, Germany, Australia, and Greece. The format has recently been licensed for production in Czechia as well.
Production on the next installment of Ghosts, titled ‘The Possession of Button House,’ starts next month. You can currently watch Ghosts on BBC iPlayer.
