Pokémon Winds and Waves confirmed as 10th Generation release window and starters revealed

It’s been almost four years since the last major Pokémon games, but now the next generation – Pokémon Winds and Waves – has been officially announced.

For the past year, there’s been a lot of talk about these games, and some details – even the titles – became public back in October 2025.

During the Pokémon Day celebration and the 30th anniversary stream, Pokémon Presents, we got our first glimpse of the upcoming games.

Okay, so the game’s called Winds and Waves, and honestly, it looks like it’s set on a tropical island – it reminds me a lot of the islands in Pokémon Sun and Moon. Not a huge surprise, given the name, but yeah, that’s the vibe I’m getting!

The game takes players on a journey through diverse environments, including dense jungles, sandy beaches, swampy marshlands, and the interior of a volcano.

The trailer’s biggest highlight is the introduction of the new starter Pokémon: Browt, a Grass-type bird known for its prominent leafy eyebrows; Pombon, a fluffy Fire-type Pokémon resembling a Pomeranian; and Gecqua, a Water-type lizard.

The trailer briefly showed a vibrant underwater environment teeming with Water-type Pokémon. This hints that players will be able to dive again, a feature not seen since the Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire games.

The new games clearly look much better than Scarlet and Violet, which were criticized for their graphics.

For a long time, Pokémon fans have been asking Game Freak and The Pokémon Company to spend more time developing their games, leading to improved graphics and smoother gameplay.

After the disappointing launch of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and with the next games expected to be the first major titles for the new Nintendo Switch 2, it seems players are finally getting the experience they’ve been hoping for.

Okay, so the wait is going to be a bit longer than we all thought. They’re now saying both games will drop at the same time sometime in 2027. A little disappointing, but hopefully it means they’ll be polished and awesome when they finally get here!

Great news for Pokémon fans! Everyone’s excited… except me, as I’m still hoping for a new Pokémon Mystery Dungeon title. Oh well, that’s life!
