Kim Cattrall Recreates Iconic Sex and the City Line in Rare Interview

Kim Cattrallis raising a cosmo to this iconic one-liner.

Kim Cattrall’s character, Samantha Jones, on Sex and the City, delivered many iconic lines, but one particularly daring quote is especially memorable for the actress herself.

During an interview with British Vogue at London Fashion Week on February 24th, Kim, 69, playfully remarked, ‘They don’t call it a job for nothing.’ She added that work is ‘very’ important to her, delivering the line with the same style and elegance as one of her iconic roles, and while wearing a chic fur coat.

Her response references a famous moment from the show where Samantha bluntly told her boyfriend, Adam Ball (played by Bobby Cannavale), why she wouldn’t perform oral sex on him – because of his bad smell. She famously compared his scent to a “rotten egg buffet.” This scene, from the third season, became well-known for its honest take on personal hygiene and attraction.

Kim will always cherish her role in Sex and the City, which she played for twelve years with Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis. However, she’s equally enthusiastic about playing characters that feel more personal to her now.

She told British Vogue that she’s having fun with her roles, and increasingly playing characters that reflect her own personality. She doesn’t see this as laziness, but rather as a sign of her authenticity and relatability.

The actress, known for her role in Mannequin, has often discussed her ambitions as an actor, and recently shared that she continues to find joy in the industry after almost thirty years.

She shared at the Tribeca Film Festival Lisboa last November how much she enjoys her work, despite its challenges. She described it as incredibly rewarding when things go right, and went on to say that collaborating with exceptionally talented people is more fulfilling than any other experience, even those considered intensely pleasurable.

Kim, who is married to Russell Thomas, says she doesn’t know how much longer she’ll be working, but she still loves making people laugh through her characters. That’s her favorite part of the job.

She described the feeling as stemming from something you’ve personally created. Given the frightening state of the world and the vulnerability of democracy, she believes we need to connect with one another, and shared enjoyment is a perfect way to do that.

She likely remembered this when she made a quick return to the Sex and the City world in 2023, appearing in the final episode of And Just Like That‘s second season. While fans hoped to see Samantha regularly again, Kim Cattrall confirmed the short appearance provided enough of a nostalgic moment for her.

Right after the show ended, she told Today that she felt she’d reached her limit with the role. While she doesn’t plan to completely leave Samantha behind, she explained that, like many characters she’s played, she’s become deeply connected to her and feels very protective of her. She’s grateful for everything the role has given her.

Okay, so, like, I’m devastated to admit this, but Paige DeSorbo announced back in June 2025 that she’s leaving the show after seven amazing seasons. Seven seasons! I honestly can’t even imagine it without her, it’s going to be so different. I’m still processing it, honestly.

After seven amazing summers, I’m moving on from the Giggly Squad podcast. I’m so thankful for all the fun memories, the incredible community, and the opportunities I’ve had. But, like everything else, it’s time to start a new chapter, even if some moments were a little rough!

Henry Cavill, known for playing Superman and Batman, has announced he’s leaving the Netflix series after its third season. Liam Hemsworth will take over the role of Geralt, starting with season four and likely continuing in future seasons.

Okay, so, I was completely devastated when I read Henry Cavill’s Instagram post back in October 2022. He basically said that playing Geralt of Rivia – which, let’s be real, he became Geralt – had been an incredible ride, full of monsters and amazing adventures. But then… the bombshell.
