The highly anticipated game launching in 2026 isn’t fully compatible with the Steam Deck right out of the box. While you can play it on the device, it hasn’t received official ‘Steam Deck Verified’ status. This is a letdown for Steam Deck owners, especially since the game’s publisher has been a strong supporter of the handheld console previously. It’s likely Valve will verify the game soon, but it won’t be available at launch.
Players hoping to enjoy Resident Evil Requiem on the Steam Deck this weekend can run the game, but it doesn’t perform as well as it could. Currently, Valve hasn’t officially verified the game for the Deck, and there’s no indication that will change soon.
The First Huge Game of 2026
It’s almost March of 2026, and while we’ve seen a number of games released – including Nioh 3, Mewgenics, Reanimal, 2XKO, Mario Tennis Fever, Code Vein II, High on Life 2, Towerborne, and God of War Sons of Sparta, as well as Dragon Quest VII Reimagined – none have been massive hits. That changes with Resident Evil Requiem, the first major release of the year. Crimson Desert will follow next month, but right now, Resident Evil Requiem is at the top, earning an impressive 88 on Metacritic. In fact, our review calls it the perfect conclusion to the Resident Evil series and suggests the score doesn’t even fully capture how good the game is.
This game isn’t officially verified for the Steam Deck, but players can complete it without issues. You might need to adjust some settings to get the best possible experience.
We don’t have a firm timeline for when games will be Steam Deck Verified. It can happen quickly – sometimes within weeks of release – but it often takes several months, or even over a year. Typically, it’s added sometime later in the year the game comes out.
