Analyzing every scene from the Supergirl trailer helps predict the film’s plot. Starring Milly Alcock and directed by Craig Gillespie, the movie is set to release on June 26, 2026, and is significant as the first DC Universe project under James Gunn’s leadership that he didn’t write or direct. This makes it an important early indicator of how the rebooted universe will be received. Fans familiar with Tom King’s Woman of Tomorrow comic are already reordering the trailer’s scenes to determine what they believe is the actual sequence of events in the film.
As a huge fan, I’m so excited! The marketing for Supergirl is really kicking off – we already got a first trailer before the end of 2025, and they’re planning another big preview during the Puppy Bowl, which is perfect timing since it’s right before the Super Bowl!
Excitement is growing, particularly after a recent reveal of Jason Momoa as Lobo. This has helped fans accept him in this new villain role within the DC Universe, shifting their focus from his previous portrayal as Aquaman.
As a huge movie fan, especially when it comes to comic book films, I’ve noticed how dedicated fans are about figuring out the plot from trailers and clips. And it’s happening again with the new Supergirl movie! It looks like people have actually managed to piece together the entire story, from beginning to end, just by analyzing the promotional footage. It’s pretty amazing, honestly!
Supergirl Trailer Scenes In Chronological Order
Supergirl Travels to the Red Sun Planet

The Supergirl trailer starts with Kara arriving on a planet with a red sun, seemingly at the very beginning of the story.
Based on the beginning of King’s Woman of Tomorrow, many believe the story starts on Corron, the final planet with a yellow sun before the characters travel to an area of space lit by red suns.

This reminds us of a scene in Superman, where Kal-El (David Corenswet) explains to his robot, Gary, that his cousin Kara visits planets with red suns to get intoxicated. The absence of yellow sunlight weakens Kryptonians, making it possible for them to become impaired.
Supergirl Meets Ruthye

The following scene appears to depict Supergirl encountering Ruthye in a bar, closely echoing a similar moment from the first issue of the Woman of Tomorrow comic book.
The trailer shows Kara having a drink and talking with Eve Ridley’s character, Ruthye. This conversation establishes their important connection, which is central to the film’s plot.
Supergirl and Ruthye Fight the Brigands

Soon after Supergirl and Ruthye meet, they are unexpectedly attacked by the Brigands, a gang of space pirates. The Brigands are led by Krem of the Yellow Hills, a character portrayed by Matthias Schoenaerts in the movie.
The trailer shows Kara surrounded by laser weapons, hinting at a thrilling space adventure to come.
Supergirl and Ruthye Escape the Brigands

The scenes depict Supergirl battling space pirates and successfully fleeing with Ruthye.

This is when their shared journey really begins: Kara gets involved in Ruthye’s desire for revenge, and suddenly finds herself caught up in Krem’s chase as well.
The Surprise Lobo Ambush

Shortly after, Jason Momoa’s character, Lobo – known for his incredible strength – shows up, and he immediately attacks Supergirl and Ruthye.
Fans online were thrilled with how closely Lobo’s appearance in the new trailer matched his comic book design, particularly in a detailed close-up.
Krem Arrives on the Scene

Things get complicated here, but Krem shows up soon after the destruction to see what happened. This is when we continue following his pursuit of Supergirl and Ruthye, and it also gives us a better view of the villain’s look – he appears much more alien than his comic book counterpart, who was generally more realistic in appearance.
Ruthye Recruits Supergirl

Right after that, Ruthye tries to convince Supergirl to join her, having been amazed by Supergirl’s powers and realizing she needs assistance.
Based on the first issue of Woman of Tomorrow, readers anticipate Ruthye will ask Kara to assist her in finding and eliminating Krem.
Krypto is Injured by Krem

It seems a recurring event involves Krypto getting hurt by Krem and needing to see a vet.
This news will likely be very upsetting for fans, especially since Krypto was already in a dangerous situation after being captured by Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) in the 2025 film Superman.
The scene’s position in the film makes sense timeline-wise. We see Krypto in an open field in footage from the Lobo segment, which is different from the city setting where Supergirl initially encounters Ruthye. This suggests the Krypto scene happens later in the story.

Supergirl and Krypto are both injured while operating under a red sun. Krypto will likely need to stay with a veterinarian while Kara and Ruthye pursue Krem.
Supergirl and Ruthye Go After Krem

Okay, so the editing really brings it to life – you see Supergirl and Ruthye actually getting on a ship, leaving that red-sun planet behind. It follows them all the way to Krem, showing their whole trip. It’s a cool visual storytelling moment, really sets the stage for what’s next.

The trailer showcases the ship and the two characters on board, including a shot of Ruthye using her sword.
Kara’s Emotional Moment

A memorable scene in the trailer features Kara, played by Alcock, screaming while in space, seemingly recreating a pivotal moment from issue #4 of the comic book Woman of Tomorrow.
Having seen the peaceful planet Ecvick destroyed and its monks killed, Kara flies towards a star to grieve privately and ensure her pain doesn’t hurt others.
Supergirl Remembers Krypton’s Destruction

The trailers hint that Supergirl will remember the destruction of her home planet, Krypton, through flashbacks that could appear multiple times in the movie.
Although we don’t know exactly where these events fit in the story, issue #6 of the comic book vividly depicts the destruction of Krypton. It shows the planet’s surface cracking open, the city of Argo being shielded by a protective dome, and the fatal radiation that killed many, including Kara’s mother, Alura (played by Emily Beecham).

These scenes will help viewers understand the difficult experiences that have affected Kara, revealing her as the last remaining hope for her people.
Supergirl Finds Krypto

The Kryptonian flashbacks show what appears to be a funeral. It’s not certain if this procession happens immediately after Krypton’s destruction, or if it’s due to deaths caused by radiation on Argo City, but the latter seems more probable.

I was watching the procession, and it was really touching to see this little white dog carefully going through the debris of Argo City. It was like it was searching for someone, and then it just wandered over towards all of us watching – a really sweet moment.

This dog is Krypto, and Kara ends up taking him in. It looks like the show will explore how Krypto and Kara met, and reveal more about Kara’s life before she came to Earth.
Supergirl Suits Up

Okay, so later in the trailer, you finally get a really good look at Supergirl in her full costume – it’s awesome! She’s battling these guys called the Brigands, and honestly, it’s one of the first times we see her completely suited up in the movie, which was a huge moment for me as a fan.
She won’t be wearing this outfit until later in the movie, which helps keep the earlier scenes feel more raw and realistic.

The costume is very similar to Superman’s outfit from DC comics, featuring a chest symbol and details inspired by the “Kingdom Come” storyline, and a matching collar. This design choice emphasizes the shared heritage and visual link between these two Kryptonian characters.
Supergirl Defeats the Brigands

The final scene seems to depict Supergirl triumphing over the Brigands and obliterating their ship, effectively ending the pursuit of Krem in a spectacular fashion.
A similar scene appears in issue #7 of Woman of Tomorrow, where Supergirl fights Krem’s helpers. The movie trailer, which shows a ship crashing and exploding, probably represents this major battle and hints at how the film will end.
