It’s now confirmed that Season 4 will be the last for Yellowjackets, giving fans time to guess what will happen in the final episodes. While we learn Mari is actually Pit Girl, the teen storyline in Season 3 ends with Natalie finally reaching out to the outside world. Meanwhile, in the present day, Van’s death causes a major conflict between Misty, Tai, and Shauna, suggesting a confrontation is coming – and possibly hinting at another dangerous hunt among the survivors.
Season 4 of Yellowjackets has a lot of loose ends to tie up, which is concerning given the show was originally planned for five seasons. Many questions remain after the first three seasons, and while fans have come up with some interesting theories about what might happen, it’s still unclear which, if any, will prove to be correct.
8) Lottie’s Dad Orchestrated the Plane Crash

A common fan theory about the show Yellowjackets, dating back to Season 1, suggests that Lottie’s father intentionally caused the plane crash that starts the story. This reveal could potentially happen in the final season. The idea comes from the fact that Lottie’s father paid for the team’s private flight – a strange detail that seems to hint at something more. Plus, Lottie has a difficult relationship with her parents, leading some to believe they tried to eliminate her by sabotaging the plane. However, as some fans have pointed out online, intentionally crashing a plane to get rid of one person seems like an unnecessarily drastic measure.
After Lottie’s death in Season 3, we do see her father. He’s clearly not mentally stable, and at one point reveals he bribed the police to rule something as an accident. This initially appears to be about what happened to adult Lottie, but it could also be referencing the plane crash. Even if he didn’t cause the crash, Lottie’s father seems to be concealing something – possibly that he delayed the search for the survivors, which would be a terrible act.
7) The Yellowjackets Leave Akilah in the Wilderness

A popular theory about how the show Yellowjackets will end suggests Akilah will be stranded in the wilderness. This seems increasingly possible now that Nia Sondaya, who plays Akilah, has been promoted to a main cast member for the final season. Many fans on platforms like Reddit and TikTok predict Akilah will be left behind after the group is rescued, and it appears to be a strong, though predictable, storyline for the show’s teenage characters.
I really think Akilah is still out there! It all started with one of her visions – she came back to camp and everyone was gone. And after Lottie confronted her in the caves at the end of season three, she just disappeared. The fact that Sondaya is a series regular makes me believe she’s alive somehow. I’m guessing she might stay hidden from the girls, especially since she was the one who killed the animals before they started hunting for the Pit Girl. If she is still around in the past, maybe she’s also one of the survivors we’re seeing as adults… though honestly, this whole adult survivor twist is getting a little predictable. I’m still suspicious about that postcard Jeff sent – I don’t buy that it’s real!
6) Walter Has It Out for the Yellowjackets

The show Yellowjackets hasn’t revealed the truth about Walter, and many viewers suspect Elijah Wood’s character is more than just a romantic interest for Misty. There are too many strange details surrounding him, and the show spends a lot of time focusing on him, suggesting he’s important to the larger story. Evidence includes a license plate on his car that reads “NOTWLTER” and his apparent collection of information about the survivors. It seems unlikely his presence is a coincidence, and most fans believe he’s driven by revenge.
Fans are buzzing with theories about Walter’s motives for revenge. Some think he’s connected to characters from earlier seasons, like Kodiak or the birdwatchers, and possibly even related to Melissa. There’s even speculation online that Walter and Melissa are working together, perhaps as siblings, since Melissa seems to know a lot. Others believe he might be a relative of one of the deceased Yellowjackets or have a connection to Adam. No matter the reason, it’s clear Walter is targeting Shauna and is determined to cause trouble for the group. We may finally get answers in Season 4.
5) Lisa Is Natalie & Travis’ Daughter

A popular fan theory about Season 4 of Yellowjackets is that Lisa is the daughter of Natalie and Travis, though some believe she could be Lottie and Travis’ child. Like Walter, Lisa’s purpose in the show is currently unknown. The fact that the show hasn’t eliminated her character yet implies she has a significant role to play. Plus, Lottie giving her $50,000 after her experience with the cult seems like a lot, and could be more than just compensation – it might be a way to keep her quiet, or it could hint at a larger connection.
It’s particularly interesting to consider that Lottie withdrew money from Travis’s account right before he died, and that money might be what she gave to Lisa. Given her interest in Shauna’s daughter, it makes sense she’d also be curious about Natalie’s. Considering Natalie’s past struggles with addiction, it’s plausible she secretly gave a child up for adoption. The fact that Lisa is that child adds a fascinating new dimension to their relationship throughout the second season, although it doesn’t entirely feel believable to me.
4) The Teen Yellowjackets Murdered Someone When They Got Home

Whether or not the Yellowjackets were in a sort of limbo, their actions after being rescued are definitely happening in the real world – and seem to be far-reaching. When Shauna is threatened, Tai warns her that someone is targeting her not just for what occurred in the wilderness, but for things she did after they returned home. This also explains why Melissa went into hiding. Many viewers believe this means the Yellowjackets, or at least Shauna, committed a crime after being rescued.
We’ve established Shauna is capable of keeping secrets, and it’s likely someone would reveal the truth if pressured. Once rescued, the teenagers will face tough questions, and anyone who doesn’t believe their version of events could become a problem. This sets up some dramatic conflict after the rescue, especially now that Molly Ringwald will be playing Van’s mother.
3) The Adult Yellowjackets Are in Purgatory

Fans of the show Lost might recognize a similarity to a theory about Season 4 of Yellowjackets. The scenes involving Natalie and Van’s deaths raise questions, and the idea that the adult characters are experiencing something like purgatory could be an answer. It’s interesting that not everyone has these scenes – Travis and Lottie don’t, but both Natalie and Van connect with their younger selves before seemingly moving on. Teenage Van even points out that simply surviving wasn’t the point. Importantly, both Natalie and Van choose compassion over violence before they die, which might explain why they’re being taken to a new place.
This theory about Yellowjackets has a few problems, mainly because it would minimize the importance of what’s happening with the adult characters. If the show explores a sort of “afterlife,” it probably won’t be a literal place, but rather a way to separate those who are dealing with their past trauma from those who aren’t. However, a real purgatory isn’t impossible. Whether Yellowjackets can successfully pull off a twist where the characters were actually dead all along remains to be seen.
2) There Are Parallel Realities Throughout Yellowjackets

Instead of relying on a mystery that ultimately went nowhere, like the show Lost, Yellowjackets could introduce the idea of multiple realities. There are many unexplained occurrences throughout the Showtime series that might seem like the result of trauma, environmental factors, or even what the survivors are eating. However, these strange details could hint at a much larger and more complex twist. The show might be showing us glimpses of alternate timelines – versions of events where all the girls survived, and others where they all perished – with the current storyline existing somewhere in between.
I’ve been thinking a lot about how the show seems to be hinting at alternate timelines or realities. Remember when Natalie had that vision of all the girls after her overdose? That felt like a peek into another version of events. And Season 3 really doubles down on this idea – all the shared dreams and visions, and the way they constantly perceive things that aren’t actually there. It could just be them losing it, but what if they’re actually seeing something…more? I’m not sure if it’s going to lead to a purgatory-like explanation, or something totally new and sci-fi, but I’m really excited to find out!
1) Misty Will Be Yellowjackets’ Final Girl

Season 3 of Yellowjackets is building towards a final confrontation between the grown-up characters, and many fans think Misty will be the ultimate survivor. This would be a fitting, yet darkly ironic, ending for her. Throughout the series, Misty has desperately sought connection and belonging, so being the last one left would be a particularly harsh punishment, while death already fulfills that role for everyone else.
The idea that the Wilderness spares those who give the most has gained traction, especially because Misty has arguably sacrificed more than anyone else. Fans point out that Misty’s actions – destroying the black box and essentially holding the group together during key moments – have led to further sacrifices, potentially earning her favor with the Wilderness. While it’s still uncertain what will happen, many believe Misty is the most likely character to survive until the end of Season 4.
