He’s also starred in popular films like First Man and The Fall Guy, and is now leading the movie adaptation of Project Hail Mary, the latest book by The Martian author Andy Weir.
Ryan Gosling is expanding his work in big franchises and will star in the upcoming 2027 film, Star Wars: Starfighter. The movie will be directed by Shawn Levy, known for Deadpool and Wolverine, and written by Jonathan Tropper, who worked on The Adam Project. This will be the second Star Wars movie released since Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker came out in 2019. Gosling has already shared a unique detail about the character he’s playing.
During an interview with MovieWeb while promoting Project Hail Mary, Ryan Gosling was asked to compare the coolest, bravest, and smartest of his characters from three science fiction films: Project Hail Mary‘s Grace Ryan, Officer K from Blade Runner 2049, and his character in Star Wars: Starfighter. Instead of avoiding the question, he shared some interesting thoughts about how they stack up.
It’s tough to pick, but I’d say Grace is the coolest. I think he’s really cool. As for bravest, I’d go with my Star Wars character, and I think the smartest character is from Blade Runner.

Ryan Gosling is heading to a galaxy far, far away in a new Star Wars film, and he’s joined by a fantastic cast. Flynn Grey will co-star, and the ensemble also includes well-known actors like Matt Smith (from Doctor Who), Mia Goth (Frankenstein), Aaron Pierre (Lanterns), and Amy Adams (Arrival).
The new movie will definitely feature the classic lightsaber duels and exciting spaceship chases that fans expect. Interestingly, Tom Cruise even helped film one of the lightsaber battles, and director Levy has confirmed it will be included in the final version of Starfighter when it’s released in cinemas.
Even though the movie Starfighter isn’t out for another year and a half, we still don’t know what character Ryan Gosling will play or what his role will be in the story. However, based on what he’s said, it sounds like his part will be quite significant. Fans are hoping for a trailer to arrive in late 2026 or early 2027 to reveal more details, and we can expect further news throughout the rest of the year about what director Shawn Levy and Lucasfilm have planned.
