PlayStation Losing One of the Best PS5 Exclusive Games This Month

A popular PlayStation 5 exclusive game is expanding to PC on March 19th. Originally released last year, the game will now be available on a new platform. While there’s no official confirmation yet, many expect it to eventually come to Xbox Series X, following the pattern of the previous game in the series.

PC gamers who’ve been waiting for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will finally get their chance later this month. This was expected, as the original Death Stranding launched as a PlayStation exclusive in 2019 and came to PC in 2020. Many predicted the sequel would follow a similar pattern with a PC release a year after its console debut in 2026, and now we have a confirmed release date.

One of 2025’s Best Games

Our review of Death Stranding 2 awarded it a perfect score, and rightly so. It was one of the best games of last year, earning an 89 on Metacritic and a nomination for Game of the Year at The Game Awards.

Death Stranding 2 has received very positive reviews, earning an 89 on Metacritic. This makes it one of the top-rated games exclusive to the PlayStation 5. Only two other PS5 exclusives have scored higher: Astro Bot with a 94 and Demon’s Souls with a 90.

Whenever a PlayStation exclusive game becomes available on PC, it slightly weakens the reason to buy a PS5. It’s even more concerning when those games also appear on other consoles, like Xbox. While the first game took five years to reach Xbox, it likely won’t happen again soon. It’s hard to say exactly how much this impacts sales, but Sony seems to recognize it’s a factor, as reports suggest they’re planning to release fewer exclusive games on PC. In this particular case, PlayStation can’t control the situation because they don’t actually publish the game—they only secured temporary exclusivity through a unique agreement.

As with many PlayStation games, the PC port is being developed by Nixxes Software, a team within PlayStation that specializes in bringing games to PC. It’s expected to work on handheld PCs like the Steam Deck, though official details are still limited and this is currently based on anticipation.
