Beloved BBC comedy’s gem of a spin-off is coming to Netflix next week

Following a successful debut on the BBC, the popular comedy series Amandaland is now also available to stream on Netflix.

The new series Amandaland will premiere on Netflix on Thursday, March 12th. You can also watch Motherland on Netflix and BBC iPlayer right now.

Okay, so this new series centers around Amanda, played by Lucy Punch, who’s really having a moment. She’s just gone through a divorce and is trying to figure out life while raising teenagers. It’s a total look at the messy side of modern motherhood – you know, all the struggles and anxieties. Plus, things are complicated by her relationship with her mom, Felicity, played by Joanna Lumley, which is…let’s just say, a bit fraught.

The show features several new characters, like Amanda’s neighbor Mal (Samuel Anderson), the couple Della and Fi (played by Siobhán McSweeney and Rochenda Sandall), and South African developer Johannes (Peter Serafinowicz).

After a successful start on BBC One, the comedy series has been renewed for a second season. It averaged 5.7 million viewers, and the first episode pulled in 7.4 million – making it the BBC’s second most popular new comedy launch in recent years, only surpassed by Ludwig.

Holly Walsh, who co-wrote and created the show, was thrilled with how well the first series was received and is eager to begin working on the next one.

Sharon Horgan, whose company Merman produced the spin-off, expressed her delight at the show’s dedicated fanbase, saying it exceeded all expectations.

As a huge fan, it’s just amazing to see all the dedication from the cast, writers, director, and the entire production team really shine through in this show. I especially want to give a shout-out to Lucy – she’s an absolutely phenomenal lead – and the BBC for believing in the vision of ‘Amandaland’ right from the very beginning. It’s so rewarding to see hard work recognized!

In our 4-star review of Amandaland’s first season, we noted the show had the potential to become one of the best comedy spin-offs and that it was simply enjoyable to revisit this familiar setting, even with a new location.
