Fans of the TV show Outlander, which is based on Diana Gabaldon’s novels, are eagerly anticipating the final episodes after the dramatic events of last season. With only a few episodes left, many long-standing questions remain unanswered, mysteries that have lingered throughout the series. These aren’t minor details – each unresolved plot point is crucial to the main story and understanding the heart of the show. Don’t expect a simple, feel-good ending filled with happy reunions; the finale promises to be much more complex.
Here are 5 major questions that need to be resolved in the final season of Outlander. The answers could dramatically reshape your understanding of the entire story and all the events that have unfolded so far.
5) What Was Jamie’s Ghost Doing in Season 1?

As a huge Outlander fan, I’ve been obsessed with figuring out who that mysterious ghost is in the very first episode – the one staring at Claire and noticed by Frank. Diana Gabaldon, the author, actually confirmed it is Jamie! But how that’s possible is still a big question mark, even for those of us who’ve read all the books (and are eagerly awaiting the next one!). She’s hinted that Jamie isn’t traveling through time like Claire, but is more of a… well, a spirit that exists separately from the stones. Honestly, what does that mean? It’s so intriguing!
Lately, around the start of Season 7, Jamie’s been having these incredible dreams where he seems to jump forward in time. A lot of fans, myself included, think they might be astral projections – like his mind is actually traveling while he’s asleep, or in some altered state. It makes sense considering everything he’s been through, especially those close calls with death, and even Diana Gabaldon hinted at a connection. It’s been really getting me thinking about why he appeared to Claire when he did. It definitely proves how deeply connected they are, almost like it’s something beyond explanation, but was it just him wanting to see her, or is there a bigger reason? That’s what I’m really wondering.
4) What Actually Happened With Faith?

The fate of Claire and Jamie’s stillborn daughter, Faith, is a major puzzle for viewers. Though she died in Season 2, the story resurfaced with the character Fanny in the recent season. We know Claire gave birth in Paris and that Mother Hildegarde supposedly took the baby and buried her in the hospital cemetery, but this happened off-screen. The pregnancy was difficult and emotionally draining for Claire, and while she and Jamie eventually moved forward, a simple song has brought all the pain and mystery back to the surface.
The season finale of Season 7 features a surprising connection: Fanny sings a song that Claire used to sing to their daughter, Faith. While it could be chance, it seems the song actually comes from the future. Adding to the mystery, Fanny also possesses a locket engraved with the name of Claire and Jamie’s daughter. This evidence suggests Faith might not have died, but instead survived, grew up, and even started a family of her own. This raises many questions: who cared for Faith, and how does this fit into the established timeline? If true, everything Claire and Jamie have done – their time travels, their efforts to protect their family, and all their choices – would be seen in a completely new light.

Fanny and Jane’s story adds another layer of complexity to the series. Introduced in Season 7, the sisters are orphans struggling to survive, with Jane working as a prostitute to provide for both of them. When Captain Harkness attempts to harm Fanny, Jane kills him in self-defense, leading to her arrest. Despite William’s efforts to save her, Jane tragically takes her own life in prison. This leaves Fanny in the care of Claire and Jamie at Fraser’s Ridge, forming the initial bond between the three of them.
Fanny’s locket, inscribed with the name “Faith,” immediately piques Claire’s interest, particularly because it seems to have belonged to Faith’s mother. This discovery sparks a theory that the central couple might actually be Fanny’s grandparents. If this proves true in the final season, it would be a huge twist with major implications for the story. Currently, it’s the biggest mystery for fans, as Fanny appears to be the link between the past, present, and future. And the show Outlander is known for unexpectedly connecting different time periods.
2) What Is Master Raymond’s Secret?

Master Raymond remains one of the biggest mysteries of the series. We first meet him in Season 2 as a skilled healer who seems to know more than possible for his time, but he vanishes afterward. He reappears in Season 7 during a vision Claire has while she’s close to death, offering help and an apology before disappearing again with a puzzling message about Claire understanding things ‘someday.’ This leaves us wondering about his true intentions, how he keeps appearing and disappearing, and even if he might be traveling through time.
Fans are buzzing with questions, and a popular theory has emerged: Master Raymond mysteriously helped Claire recover after childbirth, seemingly before Mother Hildegarde could react. Given this and recent events, many believe Raymond may have been involved with Faith’s survival – perhaps by saving her or concealing the truth about her. The books hint at Raymond having connections to time travel or even being a distant ancestor of the time travelers. Whatever his role, he remains one of the biggest unanswered mysteries in Outlander.
1) What Are Mandy and Jemmy’s Abilities Exactly?

Brianna and Roger’s children, Mandy and Jemmy, are quite unique. While they come from a family of time travelers, the show hasn’t fully explained the extent of their special abilities. These abilities first become apparent in Season 5 when Jemmy demonstrates he can hear the familiar ‘buzz’ of the time-travel stones, just like his parents and grandmother. It becomes even clearer he’s extraordinary when he reacts strongly to the stones – for example, when a gem heats up in his hand and explodes.
Mandy’s special abilities first become noticeable in Season 7 after her brother is kidnapped. She seems to have a near-telepathic link with Jemmy, feeling his presence and sensing danger before anyone else. However, the full extent of their powers is still unknown. It’s unclear whether they can actually change events, or if they just have a heightened sense of what’s happening. It’s also possible their abilities are stronger because they have two time-traveling parents. Ultimately, Mandy and Jemmy might hold the key to solving many of the show’s remaining time-travel puzzles.
The final season of Outlander premieres on March 6 on Starz.
