Shia LaBeouf Interview Released Following Second New Orleans Arrest

Actor Shia LaBeouf was arrested in New Orleans on Tuesday, February 17th, after police say he caused a disturbance and became aggressive in the French Quarter. Reports indicate he physically assaulted people and used hateful language. He was initially charged with two counts of simple battery. On February 27th, LaBeouf turned himself in to authorities on an additional simple battery charge related to the same incident.

Shia LaBeouf recently gave a lengthy interview to Andrew Callaghan on YouTube, which gained over a million views in a short time. During the conversation, LaBeouf talked about the events of February 17th, his journey with sobriety, and his past relationships with Mia Goth and FKA twigs.

Honestly, hearing Shia speak recently really moved me. He said he’s genuinely been having an amazing time, but more importantly, he expressed real remorse. He admitted he’s carrying a lot of regret for hurting people, and he was so clear that it was completely wrong – he even called it ‘lame’ which felt so raw and honest. He’s taking full responsibility, saying he’s going to own up to everything he’s done and make things right, and that the fault lies entirely with him, not with those he hurt. He just plainly said he messed up, and it felt incredibly genuine and brave.

When asked if he accepted responsibility for his circumstances, LaBeouf immediately responded with a resounding, “Absolutely.” He continued, stating he didn’t want to avoid the issue, and added with a smile, “I actually had a good time.”

Honestly, it was tough to watch him talk about what happened on February 17th. He kept saying he was drunk at the time and admitted he wasn’t thinking clearly, taking full responsibility for his part. He’s dealt with substance abuse before, and he shared that he’d relapsed about nine months prior. It was a really raw moment when he actually got up mid-interview to grab a beer. But you know, he also insisted he doesn’t think he has a drinking problem, but something else he needs to work through, and he plans to do that.

I’ve been realizing I struggle with some deep-seated issues – maybe a bit of an overinflated ego and a tendency towards anger. It’s something I’m working through, and I believe it’s more about these personality traits than my past struggles with alcohol. I’m still figuring things out, but I’m confident I’ll make progress.

Callaghan asked LaBeouf what triggered his anger, and the actor responded by saying he feels intimidated by gay men. He explained that if he’s alone and a group of gay men touch his leg, it makes him scared, and he apologized if that came across as homophobic, stating he’s willing to accept that label if it applies.

Callaghan then asked if this had happened before. LaBeouf replied that it only happened recently, explaining, “That’s actually why I was arrested.” He continued, “I was wrong to touch anyone, and I’m not going to say anything further about this.”

According to LaBeouf, the problems between him and his ex-girlfriend stemmed from his own jealousy and controlling behavior, as well as things he believes he said. He takes full responsibility, stating it wasn’t her fault. He strongly praised her talent, calling her an incredible artist and urging people to appreciate her work, and suggested that any negative things she might have said about him were likely true.

LaBeouf’s next hearing is scheduled for March 19.
