The Monsterverse Dominates Streaming Charts With Two Top 10 Hits (on Different Platforms)

It wasn’t surprising that Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has been a hit for Apple TV+, but the show’s popularity is still impressive, especially for fans of giant monsters. Since its release, the return of the Monarch organization, Godzilla, and Kong has quickly become a success, boosted by both a new monster and strong viewership numbers. The show is already making waves with its second season, mirroring the earth-shaking power of the creatures it features.

It’s no surprise that Monarch: Legacy of Monsters was a hit on Apple TV, quickly becoming one of the most popular shows. Interestingly, the show’s success seems to be boosting interest in other Monsterverse properties. Currently, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is a top ten movie on HBO Max, performing better than films like Mortal Kombat, Happy Death Day, and The Watchers. With Monarch: Legacy of Monsters also doing well on Apple TV, outperforming shows like Hijack and Shrinking, it’s a fantastic time to be a fan of Godzilla, Kong, and all the Monsterverse creatures.

What’s Monarch Up To?

Previously, the organization Monarch, which studies giant monsters, had many of its members rescued from the Hollow Earth – a hidden world beneath the surface that’s the source of these creatures. Because of strange time distortions within the Hollow Earth, some characters haven’t aged, while others are stuck there. Now, the heroes have returned to the surface, but they’ve ended up on Skull Island, where they encounter Kong. To make matters worse, a new global threat is emerging.

The debut of “Titan X” in the second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters created a lot of excitement, as it was presented as the new major threat. Fans have speculated that Titan X might be a reimagining of the classic monster Biollante, but the two share only a few characteristics. Unlike Biollante, which was a combination of Godzilla and plant matter, this new monster seems to be more like a water-dwelling dragon, equally capable of fighting underwater and on land. With the season expected to focus heavily on Kong, who had a limited role in the first season, Monarch will need all the assistance it can get to protect the world.

Even after the second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters finishes later this year, the Monsterverse won’t be slowing down. Apple TV+ is already developing another show within this universe, building on the popularity of Monarch, and Legendary is preparing the next Godzilla x Kong movie, scheduled for release next year.
