Hilary Duff won’t keep her lips sealed about this sweet and sour memory.
Hilary Duff, known for her role in Lizzie McGuire, revealed that Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden generously offered her family a place to stay at their home during the 2025 Los Angeles fires. Despite the kindness, Duff admitted she and her husband, Mathew Koma, had a significant argument while they were guests there.
Hilary, 38, shared that her close friend Cam generously allowed her whole family to stay at their house. She explained that she and her husband, Matt, had recently been displaced from their home and were dealing with a lot of stress as wildfires raged all around them. She will be discussing this on an upcoming episode of The Drew Barrymore Show airing March 3rd.
Adding to the challenge, they also had to move their four children—Banks, 7, Mae, 4, Townes, 21 months, and Hilary’s son Luca, 13, from a previous marriage—along with their pets. The stress of it all led to a fight, and Hilary Duff reportedly threw her husband’s phone into a thorny bush outside.
Hilary describes a tough fight during her six-year marriage, but now looks back on it with fondness – and even a little amusement at how well she threw things!
She was referring to a bougainvillea plant and jokingly said she was proud of herself for growing it, adding that the plant’s thorny branches were so strong you could even use them for fishing from the balcony.
Drew was full of praise for Cameron, 53, and Benji, 46—who are parents to Raddix, 6, and Cardinal, 2—and how supportive they were to Hilary’s family, describing them as truly wonderful people.
The former Charlie’s Angel star has always appreciated her friend Cameron’s kindness, and Cameron also helped her stay balanced throughout her career.

Drew shared with PopSugar in 2021 that he always cherished being with her because they both stayed grounded and avoided getting caught up in the superficial side of Hollywood. They simply wanted to live authentic lives, prioritizing their friendships and a close group of female friends.
He explained that their conversations were always about the big things in life – love, loss, and personal struggles – and never about superficial topics like appearance or work. He really valued having someone who, like him, wasn’t focused on those things. They genuinely enjoy each other’s company and have supported each other through all of life’s ups and downs.
