As a huge Harry Potter fan, I always knew Ralph Fiennes was the Voldemort, but it’s easy to forget just how many actors actually portrayed him throughout the films! Before Fiennes, Richard Bremmer did the unsettling work of playing Voldemort’s face on the back of Quirrell’s head. And then there were the younger Tom Riddles! Christian Coulson was fantastic as the Riddle in The Chamber of Secrets, and Frank Dillane (who you might recognize from Fear the Walking Dead) played him as a teenager in The Half-Blood Prince. But the final piece of the puzzle was Hero Fiennes Tiffin – Ralph Fiennes’ nephew, actually! – who played the 11-year-old Tom in The Half-Blood Prince as well. He’s even hinted at possibly returning to the franchise, which is a fun thought!
Before the release of the highly-anticipated series Young Sherlock, where Hero Fiennes Tiffin plays a younger version of Sherlock Holmes, he discussed with egmr.ru how he landed the role of Tom Riddle. He also shared his excitement about potentially returning to the Harry Potter universe with the upcoming HBO reboot.
I’d absolutely be open to being part of a reboot. I’d be thrilled to discuss it. It feels like so long ago when I first did the audition – I honestly didn’t think I had much of a chance. I went through seven or eight callbacks, but I never really believed I’d get the part. Now, when I watch those scenes, I’m incredibly proud of myself, but also feel quite removed from that younger version of myself. It really does feel like a lifetime ago. It was a huge honor to be part of such a great story, and if they reached out, I’d definitely take the call.
Hero Fiennes Tiffin Would Be Perfect For a Cut Harry Potter Scene

I’m really hoping we see Hero Fiennes Tiffin return as Tom Riddle in the new HBO series! He’s probably too old to play the younger versions we’ve already seen, and he’s not a huge star yet, so maybe not the obvious choice for adult Riddle. But the show is going to have so much more time to tell the story, and they’re planning to really explore Voldemort’s past – like his family history. I think it would be amazing to see an adult Riddle return to Hogwarts, applying for the Defense Against the Dark Arts job, and setting the stage for the curse that follows. It would be a perfect way to bring him back and show that part of the story!
When the show reaches the fifth season and adapts The Half-Blood Prince, Hero Fiennes Tiffin will be in his 30s (he’s currently 28 – almost ten years older than when he played young Sherlock Holmes). This makes him a strong candidate to convincingly portray the adult Tom Riddle. It would be a clever nod to the original films without feeling like unnecessary fan service, and honestly, fans should start a campaign to make it happen!
