Resident Evil 1 Remake Enters Full Production But It’s Currently “Years Out” – Rumor

Rumors suggest Capcom is planning remakes of both Resident Evil – Code: Veronica and Zero. Given those projects, it wasn’t surprising to hear that they’d eventually revisit the original Resident Evil. According to reliable leaker Dusk Golem, that’s now happening, with the Resident Evil 1 Remake reportedly in full production.

It’s likely to be a long wait – currently, estimates suggest it’s several years away. However, this would clarify why Spencer Mansion wasn’t included in Resident Evil: Requiem, considering its important ties to Raccoon City.

“I honestly have some ideas about why it was cancelled,” Dusk Golem said. “I know it was cut, but I’m just guessing at the reasons. I think I’m getting closer to the truth, though. I believe the next major Resident Evil game will be Code Veronica Remake. Code Veronica features a return to the mansion from the original Resident Evil, and everyone is aware of that.”

If future Resident Evil games repeatedly featured the iconic Mansion setting – like having it in Resident Evil Requiem, then again in the Code Veronica Remake, and then revisiting it in a Resident Evil 1 Remake – it would quickly become repetitive and lose its impact. Seeing the same location so often in such a short period would make it feel less special.

The idea behind remaking the original game is solid, but it’s puzzling considering Capcom already did a remake in 2002, which was later updated with HD graphics for several consoles and PC. However, from a business standpoint, it makes sense. Given the success of recent remakes, enough time has passed to warrant a fresh update and new take on Resident Evil.

This could also bridge the wait for the next major game in the series. Reports suggest Capcom plans to discuss the future of the franchise in 2027, potentially after the expected release of Code: Veronica Remake.

Currently, Resident Evil Requiem is a huge success for the company. It’s become the best-selling game in the Resident Evil series on Steam, with sales exceeding five million copies. It even doubled the number of players simultaneously playing compared to Resident Evil 4 Remake.
