Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy have split up. Their relationship has always been rocky, and now it seems to be ending for good. This breakup comes as DC prepares a major new Batman storyline that will throw Gotham City into chaos.
Following the events of DC K.O., Poison Ivy #42 (written by G. Willow Wilson and illustrated by Marcio Takara) shows a big shift for the character. The previous issue ended with Ivy deciding to run for mayor, and this one jumps ahead to reveal she’s won. While supervillains becoming mayors isn’t new in comics, Ivy’s dedication to environmental issues will likely make her approach unique. However, this success has come at a price – her relationship with Harley has suffered.

Why Has Poison Ivy & Harley Broken Up?

The comic Poison Ivy #42 jumps ahead in time without explaining why Ivy and Harley Quinn broke up. The story suggests Ivy made a deal with magical forces to become mayor, and it’s likely this deal is the reason for the split. Gaining that much power through magic usually requires a significant sacrifice.
A big event called “Bad Seeds” is about to begin, and it’s causing chaos in Gotham City. The story centers around Poison Ivy becoming mayor. Here’s the official description from DC Comics:
Gotham City is facing its darkest hour. Police Commissioner Vandal Savage has launched an all-out attack on Batman and his allies, filling the streets with a heavily armed private army. Meanwhile, Mayor Pamela Isley, abandoned by her supporters, is preparing a desperate gamble that will devastate the city. These events unfold over a single, terrifying night in “BAD SEEDS,” threatening to transform Gotham into a dangerous, prehistoric jungle – all while its heroes are forced to operate in secret and evade capture.
The upcoming “Bad Seeds” storyline in Gotham hinges on Poison Ivy feeling completely isolated. We’re starting to see this happen as she and Harley Quinn grow apart, leaving Ivy devastated. This separation will ultimately lead to a full-blown conflict between Ivy and Vandal Savage, and Gotham will suffer the consequences. To make matters worse, the entire Bat-Family is currently considered an outlaw group, making it incredibly difficult for them to intervene and try to resolve the situation.
Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy have split up before, but this breakup is likely to upset many fans who love their relationship. It’s unclear if the reasons for the split will be satisfying enough for readers to accept the change.
