There will be no mist and fury over this new ACOTAR update.
Sarah J. Maas has announced the release date for the sixth book in her popular A Court of Thorns and Roses series, which continues the story after A Court of Silver Flames from 2021. She also revealed that she’s already working on the seventh book!
The author announced on the Call Her Daddy podcast with Alex Cooper that her next book will be released on October 27th, and the seventh book in the ACOTAR series will follow on January 12th.
Although the exact titles haven’t been announced yet, Sarah mentioned the stories are closely linked and will be released very close together in time.
She explained that the story she’d been wanting to tell was massive. While writing in Montana, a place she described as having a powerful energy, the story flowed out of her unexpectedly. She usually breaks her writing into sections, but the first part alone ended up being around 400 pages long.
Okay, so here’s the scoop from Sarah – she’s planning a massive story arc, essentially continuing the A Court of Thorns and Roses series! It’ll unfold in four installments. We’re starting with what’s essentially ACOTAR 6, then moving into ACOTAR 7 which will actually be split into two books, and finally, a fourth part will follow at a later date. It’s going to be quite the journey for fans!
She said the previous sections were very lengthy, and she’s currently focused on finishing the first part because the fourth part hasn’t been written yet.
In December 2024, Sarah confirmed she was planning to write two more books in the ACOTAR series – a sixth and a seventh. She mentioned she’d already developed the storylines for these future installments, jokingly saying she’d figured them out while in “taxing positions.”
She also announced that the next book in her Crescent City series—following House of Earth and Blood, House of Sky and Breath, and House of Flame and Shadow—will connect with the world of her ACOTAR series, bringing the two stories together.
Sarah hinted during an interview on Today that she was really enthusiastic about a particular project. She shared that she had a much better understanding of what was going on with it, and she already had some initial ideas for the next installment in the series, though they were still pretty broad at that point.
She added that while she enjoys the core process of writing and exploring her characters’ feelings, that’s what she typically finds most rewarding.

Fans are wondering whose perspective the sixth book in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series will follow. Since the stories have already focused on sisters Feyre and Nesta Archeron, many believe their other sister, Elain Archeron, could be the main character in the next installment.
I’ve been following Sarah’s work closely, and she’s been pretty quiet about this particular theory. She has let slip that she really started thinking a lot about Elain’s personality while working on the fifth book, and it’s funny—she mentioned it all came to her while she was gardening, pulling weeds at her place! It’s a small detail, but it feels significant, knowing how much thought she puts into everything.
While I was pulling out ivy and tidying up the garden, I found myself really thinking like my character, Elain,” she explained to Today. “Since Elain is a gardener, all that work actually became research for the book I was writing about her.”
