My Hero Academia Creator Returns With a New Look At Beloved Characters

Though the My Hero Academia anime finished its main story in December, fans have a lot to look forward to this year! The series is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2026 with several new announcements planned. One highlight is a special anime episode coming in May 2026, adapting chapter 431 – an extra chapter originally found only in the final manga volume. In addition, the second Blu-ray/DVD volume of the Final Season will be released on May 20th, 2026, featuring a beautiful cover with Izuku Midoriya (Deku) and All Might. The cover art was created by Kohei Horikoshi, the author of the My Hero Academia manga, as confirmed on the anime’s official X account.

More information about the Blu-ray and DVD releases is available on the official website. Currently, these editions are only available in Japan. The Blu-ray First Press Limited Edition costs 16,500 yen (including tax) and contains episodes 7 through 12. The DVD First Press Limited Edition, also including episodes 7–12, is priced at 14,300 yen (including tax). Although the final season consists of 11 episodes, both the Blu-ray and DVD will include the special episode, “More,” which will premiere globally on May 2nd, 2026.

Deku and All Might Remain Two of The Most Beloved Characters in My Hero Academia

The story really kicks off when Izuku, a boy who desperately wants to be a hero, meets All Might, the world’s most famous hero. Even though Izuku doesn’t have any superpowers, he’s always admired All Might and is determined to achieve his dream, no matter what.

All Might, who rose to become a top hero despite initially lacking a quirk, recognizes his younger self in Izuku. He chooses to both share his power, One For All, and mentor Izuku on his path to becoming a hero. Their strong student-teacher relationship lasts throughout the series and is a favorite among fans, making All Might a particularly beloved character.

What to Expect From My Hero Academia’s Return

Chapter 431 provides a satisfying conclusion to the story, following the adventures of Class 1-A, the U.A. High School’s top three students, and professional heroes after a time jump. The chapter mainly focuses on Ochako Uraraka and shows a gathering where their hero rankings are revealed. It takes place shortly after the main storyline ends, with all the U.A. students now established as impressive pro heroes. You can watch it on Crunchyroll, along with all eight seasons of the anime.
