Although The Capture initially seems focused on modern technology, particularly deepfakes, the show’s two seasons also explore broader issues within our society.
The first season centered on Shaun Emery, played by Callum Turner, who was accused of kidnapping and murder. The show then followed his legal journey, offering a look at how the justice system works today.
In the second season, the show delved into the world of politics and fake news. Paapa Essiedu’s character, MP Isaac Turner, was targeted by a deepfake, with a manipulated video of him appearing on news programs and expressing opinions he didn’t actually share.
Everyone’s buzzing about what Season 3 will focus on, and honestly, the show’s creator, Ben Chanan, is keeping it super close to the vest – it’s a mystery he’s not revealing just yet!
In an interview with TopMob, Chanan explained that Season 1 focuses on the court system, British justice, and its dependence on video evidence. He described Season 2 as exploring themes of news, television, misinformation, algorithms, and politics within a police precinct.
The third season introduces a new police precinct, and the story slowly reveals its secrets throughout the show.
Although we’re still unsure about the specific location, season 3 will begin a year after the events of season 2. Rachel Carey, played by Holliday Grainger, will now be the Acting Commander of the Counter Terrorism Command.
After a shocking and carefully planned terrorist attack, Carey begins an investigation that quickly reveals a growing international crisis. This crisis reaches deep into the heart of British politics, intelligence agencies, and the news media.
