Highguard’s Final Update Brings in Acount Levels, Skill Tree, New Warden and New Weapon

Okay, so Wildlight Entertainment is sadly shutting down the Highguard servers on March 12th, which really stinks. But they’re going out with a bang! They just announced a huge final update that’s adding a ton of new stuff to the game before it goes offline. We’re talking completely new systems – like account-wide progression and a full skill tree to mess around with. It’s launching on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S at 4 pm PST, so I’m gonna jump in and check it all out one last time!

You earn account levels just by playing the game. Each match gives you XP, and leveling up unlocks a skill point you can use to improve your character. Accounts start at level 0 and can reach a maximum of level 100. The first level gives you five skill points, then each level after that gives you one, up to level 40. This means you can earn a total of 44 skill points. These points can be spent in one of four skill branches: Raider, Treasure Hunter, Harvester, and Protector.

The Raider class specializes in abilities that improve your overall performance in combat. Key abilities include Infiltration, Juggernaut, and Spearhead. Infiltration lets you extend ziplines further into the enemy base during raids. If you have the Juggernaut ability, you’ll gain a temporary shield after breaking through a wall. Spearhead provides access to a Domesplitter and a Thumper Charge when the Siege Tower arrives.

The Harvester class specializes in exploiting Vesper resources and utilizes the powerful Warden Axe. Key skills include Heavy Swing, which instantly breaks Vesper Nodes with a two-handed axe attack, and Shatter Orb, allowing players to destroy enemy soul orbs using either their Throwing Axe or standard axe swings. Additionally, Field Crafting enables players to create armor, equipment, and raid tools directly on the battlefield.

The Treasure Hunter skill line improves the loot players discover, offering skills like Treasure Seeker, Archaeologist, and Artifact Mastery. Treasure Seeker helps players locate and unlock secret chests throughout the world. Archaeologist lets players sell items to Trader Flynn for better prices. Finally, Artifact Mastery increases the magical bonuses provided by equipped amulets.

The Protector tree enhances a player’s defenses with skills like Resonant Walls, Unbreakable Armor, and Vanguard. Resonant Walls makes reinforced walls more durable. Unbreakable Armor prevents losing armor when defeated, with a 2-minute cooldown. And Vanguard lets teammates respawn at your location while you’re defending your base.

You can easily turn skills on and off with a single click, and resetting your skill points is free. The points you earn from leveling up—a total of 44—let you completely specialize in two skill trees, or mix and match to create a build that suits your playstyle. We’ve also made it faster to earn experience, so you can explore and enjoy the skill tree more quickly.

The latest update introduces Koldo, a new Warden with a mysterious past. Described as a spirit from before the land sank, Koldo uses his soul’s energy to defend his teammates. His special ability, Guardian Angel, automatically activates a protective shield – Soul Shield – whenever he revives an ally or safeguards nearby friendly structures. Players can also manually deploy Soul Shield during gameplay to shield themselves and their allies. Koldo’s ultimate ability, Battle Cry, creates a battle standard that projects a protective dome. This standard can be moved around, allowing players to strategically position the dome for maximum benefit. Allies inside the dome heal more quickly.

The latest update completes Highguard’s arsenal with the Switchback, a versatile long-range, double-barrel shotgun. It excels at both close and long-range combat: normally a powerful shotgun, aiming down the sights transforms it into a precise marksman rifle. Its dual barrels allow for rapid-fire follow-up shots. Players can obtain the Switchback in two gold versions – the Basebreaker and the Repeater – from loot chests or by trading with Flynn.
