Pokémon Pokopia offers fun crafting and cozy gameplay with your favorite Pokémon, and you can also enjoy playing with friends and others online!
You’ll need to progress a bit in the game before you can use its multiplayer features, but once you do, you’ll be able to play with others online or locally, and even use Nintendo’s GameShare to play together.
Here is everything to know about multiplayer in Pokémon Pokopia.
How to unlock multiplayer in Pokémon Pokopia
Once you reach Environment Level 2 in Pokémon Pokopia, you can play with up to three friends either locally or online. To begin, visit the PC at the Pokémon Center and choose ‘Link Play’.

As a big fan of Pokopia, I’ve learned that to level up my environments, you really need to focus on making your Pokémon happy! Basically, decorating their habitats in a way they love boosts their Comfort Level, and that automatically raises the overall Environment Level. It’s all about keeping them comfy and content!
At the start of the game, this will usually happen on its own and doesn’t need much effort.

The ‘Link Play’ menu is where you access all of Pokémon Pokopia’s multiplayer options. From here, you can invite friends to your island, visit other players’ islands, or team up on a shared island using a special code.

Online multiplayer and local co-op
Pokémon Pokopia lets you use the same team-boosting features whether you’re playing with friends online or side-by-side on the same console. However, to play online, everyone involved needs a Nintendo Switch Online membership. Local co-op doesn’t require any online subscriptions.
Using GameShare for Pokémon Pokopia
Pokémon Pokopia offers standard multiplayer and local co-op, plus it works with Nintendo’s GameShare. This lets a friend play with you, even if they don’t own the game, using either the new Nintendo Switch 2 or the original Switch.
You can only share Pokopia with one person at a time using GameShare. This means you can’t use a single game copy to play with four people simultaneously.
If a second player joins in using GameShare without owning the game, they can only play Pokémon Pokopia while the GameShare session is active.

What you can do in multiplayer
In Pokémon Pokopia’s multiplayer modes, players can team up to build, craft, and farm, enjoy a game of Hide-and-Seek, and discover new Pokémon to add to their Pokedexes.
When visiting a friend’s island, you can bring a Helper Pokémon with you. This Pokémon can use its special skills to help you complete tasks more efficiently.
