The Handmaid’s Tale sequel unveils moody first-look trailer with returning and new cast

The popular dystopian series, The Handmaid’s Tale, finished its run last year after six seasons. Now, we’re heading back to the world of Gilead with a new sequel called The Testaments.

A new trailer has been released for the show, which premieres on Disney+ in the UK on Wednesday, April 8th. It gives viewers a first look at both a returning character and the new actors joining the cast.

This show is adapted from Margaret Atwood’s novel and centers on two young women, Agnes and Daisy. Agnes is a dedicated and religious girl, while Daisy is a newcomer who recently joined from outside the strict society of Gilead.

The series follows a group of students at Aunt Lydia’s exclusive school, where young women are rigorously trained to be obedient wives. Within the school’s strict and religiously-justified environment, the girls form a powerful connection that threatens to change everything about their lives – their past, present, and future.

The trailer uses The Cranberries’ song ‘Dreams,’ and begins with a happy, though slightly unsettling, mood. As expected, things quickly become darker.

You can watch the trailer right here now.

I was so excited when The Testaments finally came to the screen! Atwood’s book came out in 2019, and they announced the series would be made around the same time, so we fans have been waiting a long time for this.

You’ll be able to watch The Testaments on Disney+ in the UK starting Wednesday, April 8, 2026. Disney+ subscriptions are currently available starting at £5.99 per month.
