Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time, which originally aired from 2010 to 2018 and spanned ten seasons, proved to be a remarkably enduring hit. Though Finn and Jake’s main story concluded with the Adventure Time: Distant Lands spin-off, the world continues with Fionna and Cake. After finishing their second season last fall, a third season for Fionna and Cake is still upcoming, but more Adventure Time projects are planned. Recently, the franchise has also received significant award recognition.
The spin-off series Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake recently won a GLAAD Media Award for 2026 in the category of Outstanding Kids & Family Programming – Animated. Some viewers might find this surprising, as the show tackles mature themes and includes both violence and occasional swearing. Despite tough competition from shows like The Proud Family: Louder And Prouder, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, Jurassic World: Chaos Theory, and The Bravest Knight, Fionna and Cake ultimately took home the award.
Adventure Time’s Future

At the end of Fionna and Cake’s second season, they saved the universe again and made some surprising new friends. The arrival of the Huntress Wizard altered the Land of Oooo, and it looks like she’s now happily settled down with the grown-up Finn, resolving both of their romantic situations. While a third season hasn’t been officially announced, more Adventure Time content is still planned.
Warner Bros. Discovery previously announced that a full-length Adventure Time movie was in the works – a first for the series. While the plot is still secret, there’s a lot of potential for exciting stories. Plus, fans can look forward to several Adventure Time spin-offs that will expand the world of Oooo.
A new spin-off series, Adventure Time: Side Quests, will revisit the early days of Jake and Finn’s friendship. Although there’s been talk of it premiering this year, an official release date hasn’t been announced. Cartoon Network is also developing Heyo BMO, a show geared towards younger audiences that centers on the lovable little robot. Even after nearly sixteen years, the world of Adventure Time seems likely to continue beyond the adventures of Finn and Jake themselves.
